Gase straight up said today he is the one scripting and calling these short plays for a reason. Stop acting like RT isnt willing to/can't throw deeper routes. These beat writers are getting annoying. Are they too naive to see thats what is being called by the HC or are they too hung up in their agendas? RT typically slings it all over in camp. Obvious to me they are focusing on short stuff for now, and thats while sifting through their agenda based tweets.

I think Gase is being a little conservative until the real practices are private, plus the short game really is the bread and butter of the NFL. It sets up the deeper throws. It allows the O, whos learning a new scheme, to hammer in the fundamentals of the scheme/audibles. It will also help us practice for talented Dline's we will face (you know, jets and buff that manhandle our OL).

I know the beat writers and fans want to see a high flying offense with deep passes all over camp to get excited, but there is a method to his madness, especially while they are STILL implementing new installs.

Patience folks. Not like RT is suddenly scared throw it down field, cmon now..

If he's calling short stuff the question then needs to be, why is Moore throwing deeper passes? It's the same coach calling plays, right? Why is Moore completing more passes downfield while Tannehill keeps throwing short to Landry? Why isn't Tannehill spreading the ball around more? Gase admitted yesterday that Landry's not scripted to being the primary target on this many plays but that seems to be the only guy Tannehill wants to look at...and it's practice so don't give me the chemistry thing. If he doesn't develop chemistry with other WR now then it's not going to happen during the season.

Regardless, it makes no difference. This team is going nowhere this year anyway.

From Armando's article:

Here's a little media inside look at the press box. While the Dolphins are practicing today, I'm up in the press box arguing with several of my media brethren at other outlets about the Miami offense. They were arguing that the Miami offense is a dink and dunk offense.

I was arguing that the NFL is a dink and dunk league and there's nothing wrong with the Miami offensive philosophy.

There was also discussion about Ryan Tannehill where I found myself having to defend the Dolphins QB despite the fact I recognize he has not been a star his first four years. He has room to improve, folks. I've said that. I continue to say that. But I don't dismiss him as a substandard QB as some in the media do. I believe he can still grow into something better, unlike some in the media.

I share this because the issue of dinking and dunking on offense came up in the press conference today. And Gase seemed to get up on his haunches a little bit when he was asked if he's content throwing short even in practice.

"I'm fine with it," Gase said, his brows furrowing. "I'm the one scripting plays and calling plays, so I'm obviously fine with it. There's a time and place for it. But there's also a time and place not to get sacked 60 times in a year, too."

Ziiing!

"The whole league is 10 yards and under," Gase added later. "That's how it is. Nobody's going down the field like that. There's one team that does it, really. Maybe two -- Pittsburgh and Arizona. They hold on to the ball instead of check it down the field. But more teams than not, it's 10 yards and under. That's where all the passing game is. But if you want to stand back there and have your quarterback have his brains beat out, then go at it."

I wonder which two douche bags (Omar and Perk) he was talking about.

People need to send a message to the Sun Sentinel that the snarky negative Nancy BS needs to stop. Grow the **** up and report in an objective manner. Better yet, learn a little bit about what you are supposed to be reporting on. Ask questions and stop pretending that you have the complete picture from the press box.

I do like the info, but I kind of wish they'd just shut out the media entirely. Hurts more than it helps methinks.

Gase seems to really have his wits about him. It's going to be interesting to see what he's going to do with the virtually the same offensive personnell as last year.

Not to be stupid here, but using a Karate Kid reference....learn defense first! It is a new Offense, and the majority of the plays are 10 yards and less. We need to get this down first and the majority of the calling will be in this area. The longer stuff will come....but right now we need to try to get as good as we can at what we will be doing most! We are also going up tempo so we want to run a lot of plays, get a lot of first downs, and keep the D fresh....and take those deep shots that present themselves!

come on truth...you know damn well that has to do with progressions relative to coverage...if they are even calling the same play calls/route combos with one qb to the next...if lippett gets whooped off the line on matt moores rep and the progression says go there the ball will...if tannys rep the db plays it right and the wr isn't open he's gonna go to another progression

it's not apples to apples

although admittedly I'd like to see these reps and route combos and progressions relative to the coverages played for myself

omar and perkins don't know a damn thing about progressions or situational play...hell they don't even post the down and distance on some of these "check downs"

Which is why I think it's hilarious when people take these tweets as gospel. Don't let these clowns be your eyes wait till we can see things for ourselves.

This is want I mean by people always looking for a negative angle. Throw an interception = complain. Throw an incomplete pass = complain. Throw a completion = complain (too short). Throw a long completion = complain (wasn't a touchdown). Throw a long touchdown = complain (it wasn't pretty or it doesn't happen enough).

well its not hard to see when a guys getting his ass whooped at the los...you don't have to have an eye for it to see that...and I wouldn't be as uneasy about things if the oline hadn't blown chunks the last 3 years

but yeah with tannehill and with gase's o he's already telling you the ball goes where the coverage says it should go...that's what pre snap read and progression based qbing is all about

Tannehill typically faces the 1's the majority of the time and that DLine has been EATING all camp (2's have been too). Not going to be very productive if a coach would call longer route concepts if there is a meeting at the QB every snap, especially while there is some extra thinking going on from the offensive unit from installs.

Moore only had 2-3 deeper throws today, and one was a busted coverage. Caroo had a long gain but that was a slant that he busted free from.. so I dont see where Moore is consistently throwing down field more than Tannehill everyday.

RT had a long pass to Ajayi and that shut the beat writers up for a little, but they will be back on this topic when in the preseason game all they see is shorter vanilla stuff.

I know darn well that there have been too many passes to Landry and not enough to anyone else, regardless of down and distance that makes the offense predictable. No matter what the play call is. What happens when teams just start double covering Landry? Sack or INT probably.

Virtually Same?

Parker only played partial last year.
Rishard Matthews Gone
Lamar Miller Gone
Greg Jennings Gone
Tunsil Added
**Grant Added
Carroo Added
**Drake Added
Foster Added

** Probably not a starter but will see play time

I see quite a bit of change and new faces for a 11 man offense.

I couldn't give a rip what matt moore did today...he's not even in the same ball park pre snap read and progression wise with tannehill

it's not even worth talking about...this o by gase telling you the "coverage took the ball there" is all about pre snap reads and progressions...as it should be...

the shelf life at qbing is in pre snap reads and pocket progression...peyton manning tom brady etc...pre snap read progression

There is something to be said when you hear the consenus say that Matt Moore is having more success down the field while Tannehill is in love with finding Jarvis short for the vast majority of their 11 on 11 play. I don't think that there isn't some seperate set of rules for these qbs. Certainly this should not be ignored. I also don't think it's any secret that one guy is more comfortable standing in there and looking down the field while the other guy is going more "high percentage" from his initial analysis, which often ends up being a short pass to Landry.

Hell we saw it in the Buffalo game in 2013. Tannehill was abused, but even more so, I do not believe he threw the ball more than 3 yards the entire time. He gets hurt and first play in, Matt Moore navigates the pocket and fires a 50 yard completion to Hartline. Sure next play he is picked off by the LB . . . But these are two different QBs for sure.
