MIAMI DOLPHINS: Time-of-possession problems gall Gase. The two near-miss losses by the Miami Dolphins had a common thread: lopsided time of possession. Against Seattle, the Dolphins had the ball for 25:28; against the Patriots, they had it for 23:14, running just six offensive plays in the first quarter. That was a chief source of frustration following the loss to the Patriots last Sunday.
After falling behind 31-3, the Dolphins roared back and had a chance for a game-tying drive late in the fourth quarter before the Patriots -- despite missing Jimmy Garoppolo, who left in the second quarter with a shoulder injury -- went on a time-chewing drive that, though it resulted in no points, drained five minutes off the clock. Coach Adam Gase is blaming his offense, which had six drives of four plays or fewer in the first half against the Patriots.
"It's not the defense," Gase said. "Offensively, we cannot go three-and-out. We've done it so many times already that it's ridiculous. The defense has no chance in the fourth quarter of having any opportunity to be somewhat fresh if we're three-and-out the entire first half. And then we get back into the game and we're like, 'C'mon defense, stop them now.' Well, on play 75, you're a little fatigued."

Offense definitely needs to convert on 3rd down but we need to do much better on 1st and 2nd downs.

Defense still needs to get off the field...five times they had the Patriots in 3 and 7+ yards and all five times they allowed them to convert with Garapollo in the game. Can't have it. Both sides of the ball are not getting it done.

This is very true, I'm really liking Gase, and as a offense guy I'm sure he's frustrated.

I really like Gase; but one thing is starting to bother me. He's the head coach. Seems like he spends all his time with the offense. I understand his background is offense, but he needs to kick some butts on defense too. I think it was Rex Ryan who took a beating by not even watching the offense during games. I hope Gase starts spreading the blame and the chewing out, benching, de activation stuff to both sides of the ball. Start with Maxwell. His effort stunk.

I like it. Regardless of who he is blaming, he is seeing the big picture. I also like the fact he's putting high expectations on the offense. For any success this year, we need that.

Maxwell took a beating from everyone this week. Bennett, Blount, his teammates, coaches, national media, twitter, etc. I expect he will be a little more aggressive this week.

As far as Gase...I want to see how he handles the DC as well. Of course, he has to see that the assignment issues are addressed first so we can actually get a look at what VJ's "scheme" is supposed to be when executed properly. If that doesn't work, then he HAS to step in and delegate changes to the scheme.

I think he knows that the defense of talent isn't that good, and is expecting his offense to carry the team this year. that's what I get when I listen to him speak.

That article is several days old. Both sides have to play better. It's that simple

Ozzy rules!!

sorry- the "worn out defense" excuse doesn't work in the 1st quarter...

Gase is protecting Maxwell and bobby Mccain because no matter what quarter it is, how many 3 and outs, they have been the weakest link of this defense big time.

I suppose it is possible, but I doubt it. The only way our offense goes three and out so many times is that every player is not 100% committed like the Patriot players were last night. I interpret Coach Gase's comments to mean that RT is giving 100%, but others need to step up.

Been saying this all along. But RT nut huggers blame it on the D.
