My wife's whole huge family is from Chicago. They are great fans of Football and are experts on the suffering caused by Jay Cutler. The minute he has a brilliant game, he kills you dead as a door nail the next game with 3 ugly picks, a whole host of off target passes and an encore of 4??? 4???? fumbles. They laughed when Gase panicked and reached out to Cutler. They said that Cutler is the most inconsistent QB they have ever seen. You never can go anywhere with Cutler because of exactly what we saw in the 2 previous games.

Gase's thinking, if you ask me, was that with better weapons, a quality ground game and an o-line that would be better than what he had in Chicago he could design plays in a way that would protect Cutler from making mistakes. Guys, it's like going back with an old girl friend. You can't go back and fix stuff. The problems always rear their ugly heads. Buffalo was ugly as hell and very dispiriting on the heels of a great feel good trouncing of Tom Brady and friends.

Look, Tannehill went down, I believe Gase was trying to pull a rabbit out of his hat and save the season but so much went bad. I was 100% behind the move to bring Cutler in so I was wrong too. CUTLER IS WILDLY INCONSISTANT. That's the bottom line, he never was and never will be otherwise. Well, at least we found our QB this season, it's Ryan Tannehill and I can't wait to see him come back next year like a Rock Star! I can hope, can't I?

First of all, I totally agree with this perception.
But I would add this: What was Gase supposed to do? Once Tannehill went down, was he supposed to trust Matt Moore for a whole year, and bring in a street guy to back him up? I'm not saying this because I know the answer, but he was in a brutal situation once he lost Tannehill. Some people say panicked - maybe...maybe just desperate. But he couldn't just sit pat and do nothing either. Damned if he did, damned if he didn't. I'm not a Gase apologist, or huge fan, but when I look back and think about truly, what he should have done.... I'm not sure. It probably seemed the least runny of all the s*** sandwiches at the buffet at the time.

Of all the things to overcome this season ... hurricane, Tannehill's injury, other key players getting injured, coach embarrassing the franchise doing drugs ... Gase created the biggest hurdle by signing Cutler. In the end Gase just couldn't overcome this decision which was Gase's biggest mistake. I believe in Gase but he needs to get better and if Tannehill comes back next season and stays healthy then IMO we will see a better team just from this.

Yeah yesterday it was ugly. He went back to throwing off his back foot scared again. That last interception looked more like a "**** it, I don't even feel like playing anymore" throw.

Correct. I was against Cutler for cap reasons, knowing the season was lost, but after 4 games of watching Moore, fans would have questioned passing on Cutler

Exactly. If he does nothing, it sends a bad message to the team for this year - you can't build a winning culture by preparing to lose. Another option was to sign and pay someone else like Kap - likely to end in a similar fashion. Finally, he could have made a trade - imagine if we had sent a high pick to the Pats for Garoppolo. None of the options were good. In the end, we stayed in playoff scenarios until week 14 with the Cutler signing. Wish it was better, but we need to focus on another good draft.

I understand the desperation move. Gase knew what he is/downgrade from RT.

BUT its more about having JC/MM or MM/Fales...

Also it allows the skill players some continuity in the scheme without changing the O up more for a diff QB.

Could pay dividends in 2018. We will end up 7-9 most likely after our starting QB went down in TC. Could be A LOT worse..

I'm not sure what other options Gase had, I can't see how Moore or anyone else (who was available at the time) gets us to a much better place than where we are now...It was a gamble that didn't pay off.

Solely for cap reasons, I was against Cutler. But now after watching him roller coaster through the season, it become evident Gase screwed the pooch with Cutler. I can’t help thinking if He’s still bothered by the arm injury from last year, as evident by some of his shorted passes early on in the season. In any case bad move on coaches’ part.
