Gase wants Drake to get 15-20 carries a game

Coach Adam Gase said "hopefully" Kenyan Drake will handle 15-20 carries and see 6-8 targets per game.

Gase said he'd love for the Dolphins to average 70-75 offensive plays per game. (The Patriots led the league last season at just under 68 plays.) So, we're not sure how Gase plans to fit in an extra 10-15 plays per game after Miami averaged about 62 in 2017. Anyway, it's evident the Dolphins love Drake, and Gase said if Drake earns the right to be a bellcow back then he'll have no problem giving him the ball regularly. Frank Gore still poses a threat to Drake's touchdown potential.

That sounds about right to me. Keep him fresh and use Gore and Ballage too.

20 carries a game puts him at 320 carries on the season. 15 puts him at 240. I see 15 as wayyyyy more likely than 20.

If he averages 4.8 yards per carry like he did last year, that equates to 1,152 yards, which would be incredible to have in this offense.

6 targets per game and his 66.7% catch percentage equates to 4 receptions per game, and 64 on the year. That's 480 yards on his 7.5 yards per reception average last season.

That's 1,632 total yards (receiving and rushing). Which IMO seems a bit too good to be true. We'll see.

~20-25 touches sounds reasonable. 70-75 plays . . . not so much

He better "up" his game plans if he expects 70+ offensive plays
in a game

The no huddle is going to give the offense a lot more plays over the course of the season. You can already tell from the pre-season it's going to be a huge part of our offense which is smart imo, especially with the quality depth we have on defense despite popular opinion.

Dude with all that math, are you the guy from Good Will Hunting?....lol

We really want to conserve those touches for Drake with his history of nicks to get him through the entire season same as we for Regie Bush years ago who was a similiar type of player that we were able to get thru a entire season years ago.

I'm all over that!! If he did those numbers that would mean he should be in the 6-8 total TD range probably, with Gore realistically adding another 4-5. That would be a shot in the arm for this O and bring nothing but good things.

THIS!!!

I agree that if Drake can reach those production numbers it'd mean our offense is doing real well.

yeah, i don' t think he'll get 25 touches a game- certainly hope not.

I CAN see us getting to 70 plays a game though. That's basically converting 2 more first downs per game. We BETTER be doing that....

OTOH, we may be scoring quicker and allowing longer drives on D.

It is also not a question of can he do it, it is a question of the impact of effectiveness at the end of the season. I honestly think if Drake was to carry 20 times a game, he would not play every game and would be less affective at the end of the year.
