(Well sourced, fairly reputable, widely believed) rumour has it that last year Adam Gase was offered the 49ers Head Coaching Job. He accepted the job and management approved his choice for OC and DC.

Ownership then had a change of heart and insisted that Gase had to accept their puppet Tomsula as his DC - Adam promptly told them to **** off and to stuff their job where the sun don't shine.

They then handed the HC gig to Tomsula (we know how that worked out) who begged Gase to be his OC - Gase again told him to **** off  and took the Bears job.

Gase seems like the sort of person who won't forget an embarrassment like that quickly - anyone else think he is really going to want to ram this screw up down Jed York's throat on Sunday?

Actually makes me feel better. I think this was the perfect trap game. We could use the extra motivation. All the injuries/all the recent success/holiday weekend, it all adds up to be an easy time to lose focus for a second. Maybe this will be the motivation we need to not just want to win, but win BIG.

Perfect example why Trent Baalke and Jed York make some terrible decisions. They find their hot prospective Head Coach in Adam Gase and proceed to tie his hands in the negotiation by insisting that their guy who was loyal to them when Jim Harbaugh was getting scuttled (Tomsula) was in charge of the Defense. This also shows how astute Gase is by refusing to do the deal with an arm tied behind his back. He probably wanted the job as a Head Coach but instinctively knew that this was wrong.
While Gase is young, he has been nurtured by some really strong coaches (e.g. Nick Saban, Mike Martz, Steve Mariucci, John Fox) along the way and learned that certain restraints set by ownership/GMs from the getgo are doomed to failure.
Note - Jim Tomsula signed a 4 year $14M contract with the 49ers but received the full payout after just 1 year. Very expensive mistake for Jed York and Gase's success as an emerging coach makes it additionally sweet.

If you listened to that Dan Patrick Show interview yesterday (I heard it in real time but someone posted the audio here as well), Gase learned a lot about striving for perfection, dedication, attention to detail, preparation and attitude from working with Manning, who was really a player coach.

Interesting. What places will you hear about this? I'd like to read more.

It was going around a lot at the time. I think one of the 49ers fan blogs had a long post this week cursing their luck about it, that had a good summary

I'm not worry about this being a trap game and here's why.......yes we've won 5 in a row but just about every game has been a struggle. Each game has been pretty close and we needed some late game heroics to win last week so I don't think anyone on that team thinks we can just show up and win. Maybe if we had been winning easy but that's not the case here and I don't believe Gase will let them feel like any game is easy. I believe they will play hard for 60 minutes and the fact we might be starting 3 back ups up front, you know those guys have plenty to prove so they will give 110% all day long.

Ozzy rules!!

If things had gone differently, Bears coach John Fox could be preparing to face former assistant Adam Gase this weekend. Instead, Gase will be calling plays for the Bears when they face San Francisco Sunday.

After Fox was fired in Denver, Gase was one of the leading assistants for the 49ers’ head-coaching job, and according to NFL.com, would have had the job as long as he agreed to one condition: That he hire current 49ers coach Jim Tomsula as his defensive coordinator.

“Gase turned that suggestion down flat,” said Tim Kawakami of the San Jose Mercury News, and San Francisco quickly hired Tomsula to replace Jim Harbaugh.

According to NFL Media’s Albert Breer, Gase wanted to keep Vic Fangio (who also interviewed for the job) on as his defensive coordinator. Instead, both Gase and Fangio followed Fox to Chicago.

While the 49ers appear headed toward an offseason of change, the Dolphins are showing signs of becoming one of the turnaround teams of 2016. The biggest reason for that shift? Head coach Adam Gase.

Take it from 49ers guard Zane Beadles, who played for Denver for a few years when Gase was on that offensive coaching staff.

"He's very good X's and O's wise, he understands the game and definitely has a passion for the game," Beadles said. "He's a guy that comes into work excited every single day and that rubs off on players and he knows how to build some camaraderie and good relationships with his players but keep it professional and still let players know there are expectations and there's a job to be done.

"He just had something about him that you knew he was going to move up and be a good coach."
