When Adam Gase arrived I was hopeful, but had a checklist of what needed to be done. Here it is.

1. AFC East: Regularly finish 4-2 in the division but always finish at least 3-3. Check, now lets go for that 4th in Buffalo.
2. Winning record (after all, Shula did it almost every year!). Check
3. Win cold weather games. Check
4. Win games in December (we've now won 2). Check
5. Cohesive locker room. Check
6. Find ways to win, even when we're not the best team (win ugly). Check
7. Fix or start to fix the OL ... I mean really, it's so overdue. Check'ish ... it looks much improved when healthy and the subs have done an admirable job ... but more is needed IMHO.

Really, the top two were the only ones I was scrutinizing ... but damn, Gase has checked off every one. Not a bad first year, and it's not over. We're still in the hunt for a playoff spot.

What are your thoughts? What were your litmus tests. Any thoughts on how you expected it to go? Has Gase won you over?

O-line is improved but still needs work. We need some guards and a better backup Center since Pouncey can't last a full season anymore.

My litmus test is a Divisional Round Playoff appearance by year two.

I looked at the head coaching record of every Super Bowl winning coach from the SB era and the pretty much universal thing I found was that ALL OF THEM made it to the playoffs and had respectable showings within their first two years as an NFL head coach. No matter how bad the situation they inherited was, coaches who went on to win the Super Bowl were tough playoff competitors by year two.

The son of a bitch might do it in one.

Gase has turned this once proud franchise into a proud franchise again. His 2nd half adjustments are a thing of beauty. After watching this game tonight it looked as if this team didn't lose a step at the QB position. He plugs and plays players like the best of them. I see fruitful and great things happening with the franchise with this young kid at the control of this team. He truly is the best pickup in the offseason.

I agree w your checklist. I wanted him run out of town after the first 5. We looked like a pop warner team or worse. But damn was so happy to be wrong. We are one of the better coached teams in football. We are not the most talented but we play as a team and the team is tight knit. The staff are making average guys looks solid. We have probably set a team record for injuries and yet next man up gets it done somehow. That's coaching. Also, turns out his personnel assessments have been right on. Leaving Ajai in Miami week one, sticking w Maxwell, not going after another corner and believing in Lippett and Howard, etc. The thing that we have not been able to overcome - and I know it's a controversial topic on this board - but Pouncey is a great player - end of story. We cannot run the ball without him in there. I truly hope he can get well for next year. Centers w that ability don't grow on trees and as well as steen and Urbick have played there are some injuries your can't cover up w great coaching.

Consistent QB play to me was the biggest. And he's done that with Tannehill and looking like Moore too.

It has been impressive - no doubt. I mean I bet the Jet fans thought the same last year with their HC. The offseason will be really telling, hopefully we make some good decisions that work out again.

If we can get some LB's on this defense it could be exciting with VJ.

So...are you taking the credit for this season's turnaround? If so, con...gratulations?

Great coaches get the most out of each player. You can see how the players interact with Gase and are legit pumped up to go out there and give 100% for him.

This is not the most talented team, however Gase has them playing well and they are looking like they are starting to develop a killer instinct, which I been waiting to see for years.

For his 1st year, and being only 38, he is definitely ahead of schedule in my opinion.

Oh no, not at all. Just saying that when I look at whether we have found our coach of the future or not, there are some things that I really need to be fully convinced ... and Gase fully convinced me. I take zero credit for his success, I'm merely a thankful spectator.

I only had two items on my list:

Get Tannehill to be more consistent - Check

Improve game planning/In game adjustments - Check

Good point. I noticed that most top coaches do quick turnarounds like Shula did, or more recently Harbaugh or Pete Carroll. But some, like Belichik, took a little longer to get a handle on it. Of course, he was a rookie head coach in Cleveland and just when things started getting better the team snuck off to Baltimore leaving him without a team so he had to start all over. ... crocodile tears.
