Gates no lock to make team?

It would be absolutely silly of us to cut him this year. A 2nd year (undeveloped) player with that kind of raw talent? If we cut him, Pats jump on him and he'll tear us up for the next six years.

Kinda like the Jets pounced on our 3rd round pick Patrick Turner huh. He's a star now right? An Brandon London, what about him? Everyone here used to rave about him too. For every WR that becomes a Miles Austin, there are 100 that dont. Clyde Gates is not a lock.

I don't think Gates is a lock to make the team
* WR Clyde Gates – He’s only entering his second NFL season, but the Dolphins have proven in the past with Patrick Turner, Pat White and Shawn Murphy that they aren’t afraid to cut a young player in his second training camp if he’s not working out. Gates, a former basketball player who didn’t play high school football, has tremendous speed, but is incredibly raw as a receiver, barely getting on the field during his rookie year and finishing with two catches. Considering he was drafted for the previous offense, has no ties to the current coaching staff and is competing with seven other receivers for three spots, Gates is certainly no lock to make the roster. His $339,861 in dead money is not onerous at all.

but if the first OTAs is any indication, the Dolphins wants to make the most out of what Gates offers the team.
I can also tell you the Dolphins are hoping from a lot out of Clyde Gates. He was on the receiving end of more passes than just about any wide receiver today. I didn't say he was the most impressive receiver at the workout. To me, that was Brian Hartline and Roberto Wallace.

But suffice to say Gates was a major focal point.

If Gates can improve his pre-snap reads, which he struggled with last season, he should help take to top off defenses similar to the way Mike Wallace does for Pittsburgh.

Most WR's don't make a big impact their 1st season. I would hope no player is a lock to make the roster. Let's not give up on him just yet.:israel:
 
If healthy Gates will make team and outplay everyone. Unless he has stone hands like Ginn he will not be cut.
 
he's supposed to be 'fast', Ive yet to see it on the field #tedginnallover

The definition of quibbling.
 
seattle may have lead the league in qb hits and sacks per pass attempt but that's not close to being all on the oline...tavaris jackson took and will always take some of the worst sacks in football holding onto the ball too long...as for miami the same could be said about henne and matt moore...they both took plenty of sacks and qb hits that they should have either recognized the free blitzer at the los checked into another play or gotten rid of the damn ball...henne especially got hit a ton before he went out for the year and a lot of that was his own doing...

now st louis and poor sam bradford...those sacks were largely a result of a always hurt oline and poor players having to play too much in it sam bradford playing most the year with a bad high ankle sprain the kind he probably should have been on ir with given the lack of plant strength and foot mobility he had as a result and a wr core that couldn't win quickly against coverage forcing the ball to be held too long

Are you referring to Ginn's 22.7 yds per return as a rookie or his 23.2 career average compared to Gates' 24.8 rookie avg?

Yea, I simply gave up after that........
 
I feel that he's one of the players who could really emerge at wide receiver. This coaching staff could bring out his talent and I'd be really surprised if he didn't make the team.
 
can't fault the receivers all of the time, dolphins didn't make him a focal point of the offense, can't do much if they feature your skill set.
