Gators are still scared to play UM!!

This is really no surprise for me. It's not going to surprise me when they try to get out of their game against Miami in Miami in 2013.

From a financial standpoint—and let's not forget that in an Athetic Department the first order of business is business—it doesn't make sense for the Gators to play Miami on a yearly basis. But there are ways to work this in granted it will probably never happen.

The Gators biggest complaint is losing another home game. "Technically" the Gators get 7 home games if you count the game against Georgia in Jacksonville. But if you were to move that game back to a home and home series, the Gators could afford to play us once every other year. Every other year when the Gators are at home and at Georgia, they could play in Miami. They could then switch around just a fraction of SEC scheduling and make this work. Obviously, the biggest hitch is convincing Florida to go to a home and home against Georgia which is completely out of Miami's hands. I think gergia would more than welcome this move.

i love the florida college teams playing each other.. i just wish the "U" would hurry up and get more competitive.. playing 12 starters from the same highschool doesnt seem like the best way lol

With the exception of Jacory Harris, the other three from Miami Northwestern would start on any team in the country.

No doubt.

10 wins+ this season. 9 minimum.

The Gators are in fact not afraid to play anyone. They just prefer to earn all their wins and not have them handed to them as would be the case in a UM matchup. Call it a pre-mercy rule.

scores from the last 7 times we played each other...

2008/09/06 Miami FL 3 - Florida 26
2004/12/31 Miami FL 27 - Florida 10 !! Peach Bowl !!
2003/09/06 Miami FL 38 - Florida 33
2002/09/07 Miami FL 41 - Florida 16
2001/01/02 Miami FL 37 - Florida 20 !! Sugar Bowl !!
1987/09/05 Miami FL 31 - Florida 4
1986/09/06 Miami FL 23 - Florida 15

...pre-mercy rule alright!

My favorite was them dropping us to play a "more national schedule" in football, then replacing us with Montana State.

If that were true they would play a tougher out-of-conference schedule and they would also travel out of the South to play opponents.

At least Georgia schedules the likes of Arizone State and Oklahoma State. Even Tennessee plays on the West Coast.

Florida's Out-of-Conference Schedule:

09.05.2009 Charleston Southern
09.12.2009 Troy
11.21.2009 Florida International
11.28.2009 Florida State

That isn't exactly what I would call "earning" your wins. By the way, every out-of-conference game they play is in Gainesville. Georgia is "technically" a home game.

They're also playing AT South Carolina, AT Mississippi State, and AT Kentucky. Not exactly tough road games in the SEC. The toughest road game they have is at LSU.

Miami might end up with one of the toughest schedules in the country when it's over with and they certainly have the toughest first month of anyone.

09.07.2009 @ Florida State (Labor Day)
09.17.2009 Georgia Tech (Primetime Thursday Night on ESPN)
09.26.2009 @ Virginia Tech
10.03.2009 Oklahoma

Miami's Out-of-Conference Schedule:

Oklahoma
Florida A&M
@ Central Florida
@ South Florida

Tough schedule for the 'Canes and a MUCH tougher out-of-conference schedule.

Okay okay point made. I just couldn't let my team get beat on from all directions and not at least attemp to defend them. :D

...and you didn't have to actually break out the final scores. ouch. :(

My beef with the whole scheduling thing isn't just directly with the Gators. It's the entire SEC. Yes, they have great, great football teams. There's no disputing it. But each and every year we hear these SEC chants etc., etc., and if you look at the SEC's history when they play out-of-conference outside of the South, they don't fair too well.

I can recall Tennessee coming down to Miami back in 2003 I believe and beating us 10 - 6 but anyone could have won that. I will give Georgia props though. They went into Sun Devil Stadium last year and took down ASU which is no easy task. This year will be a great game against Oklahoma State. I'd just like to see SEC teams more eager to play nationwide competition away from home.

Southern Cal came to Arkansas and BEATDOWN the Razorbacks. Then they went to Virginia and HAMMERED them. And even without Beanie Wells, it was still impressive for USC to go into the 'Shoe and pound the Buckeyes. That's what I want to see from Florida, LSU, Georgia and Tennessee.

Don't forget LSU going to Sun Devil Stadium a few years back as well.

The first month of the Hurricanes' schedule this year is absolutely brutal.
