Someone mentioned this approach in another thread. I think it solves all my concerns regarding having a GM who is at odds or handcuffed by a lame duck HC (bc the new gm does not want him or maybe Tannehill, but is forced to keep them)

I think we should finally get rid of Ireland, and then allow a new GM to have full power. I say this b/c 1) in insures we have a new overall system in place, and whether that includes some of the older faces like philbin, or not, we can be confident it is for a reason/vision, and 2) it insures we get a well qualified GM in here, and not just whoever agreed to accept Ross's terms. Also, Ross is free to have a general conversation, and pick a GM who shares his principals, or to tell a GM he does like philbin, but the ultimate decision should rest with the GM who is best qualified for this job.

I'd also think that the GM would like Tanney, and some of the other talent on this team. I just think its obvious tannehill has potential and i think any GM would realize it.

I am hoping for this.

I too have come to like the idea of bringing in a new GM and giving them completely control. I like the idea that the staff would have to prove themselves worthy of keeping a job. The one exception would be that they keep Tannehill. I am sorry, I still believe in this guy. You get him a stout offensive line and a good running game and he is golden.

It does make you wonder though. How much influence did Ireland have on his coaching decisions? I still think had Ireland been shipped out with Sparono things would have been different.

I think it would be a riot to offer Matt Millen. Would he take it? How would the community and the media react?

I saw 17-0. At this point I don't mind being a guinea pig, and a source of entertainment for other teams and fans. In the end it's another story to tell.

As long as Ross doesn't handpick the GM himself. Ross is fricken clueless as to what to look for.
You might not like it but when you invest over a billion dollars (ie $1000 million), sometimes you like to handpick who is going to run it. This might seem a radical thought.
When you say that "Ross is fricken clueless..." I can't help but think you should look in the mirror. Our owner didn't inherit his wealth like Woody Johnson or Bob Kraft at the cheese factory. He made it himself after starting his career as a tax attorney in Detroit. He is now the biggest real estate developer in New York City.

Generally, and usually i do not subscribe to the belief that every single rich person is automatically smarter than everyone else. But here, i have to agree with you. Ross came up, and although he sucks in front of the camera, i think his initial choice to keep ireland was based on rational thought, and on "keeping continuity" and i do agree with it. However, here he should let the new GM have free reign. I think he will, and i actually do have confidence in him doing this. Esp armed with advisors. i just hope that if a change is coming, we know by tomorrow. i dont want to wait weeks.

This is absolutely the lamest argument out there. The fact that Ross is rich, does not mean he knows **** about football! He is clueless!!! When it comes to football. He is like most of the fans out there that probably thought everything Ireland did in the offseason was great. Well, it wasn't. And those that could take the aqua and orange glasses off could see it...I think he still has his on.
