Gus Frerotte - 2005

15th in Yards (2,996)
15th in Completions (257)
9th in Attempts (494)
52.0% Completion Pct.
18 TD's
13 INT's
71.9 QB Rating

We all know he was brought in here to manage the team for a year, and then there would be a change. Even he knew that.

He filled that roll well, did as good as a backup-caliber QB can be expected to, and now he'll move on.

Thanks for your service Gus, thanks for the 6 game win-streak to close the season. Some people here think it's acceptable behavior to crucify a player who helped your team, simply because he's sub-starter quality cap fodder and will soon be gone.

You people are idiots. We're not vindictive, mullet-headed, band-wagon hopping Chiefs fans for god's sake. Gus was our best option and performed as well as anybody expected him to. Did you want to give Feeley another chance? We know Rosenfels isn't ready.

Now I'd like a FA veteran QB and a promising rookie QB to fight it out for a shot at Marino's legacy. Don't know if we'll get Brees or Cutler. I hope we do, but everyone needs to be prepared for Ramsey/McCown vs. Croyle/Whitehurst in training camp. Just sayin'.

That might be the best we can do this year. Blame it all on Leinart. If he had come out last year, we could've drafted him & traded Surtain for Alexander or Edge.:dolphins:

Because San Fran would not have drafted Leinart over Smith right.....

If Leinart came out last year the 49ers would of taken him and we might be stuck with Smith

I see no reason whatsoever to praise Frerotte for having a horrible year. Ill let someone else do that

Exactly right.

Why thank a guy for being the 28th rated passer and only completing 52% of him passes. He was horrible and if dont thikn so then you think every quarterback in the NFL had a good year

great, we would've put in alex smith and we would've lost several more games and we wouldn't have the momentum, and we'd be stuck with a huge contract with a bad QB.

OK bright guy, what would you have done different. No one said Gus was gonna be Marino, he was the best we could do. What were some other options you would have brought in??
All fans are saying is why all the hate directed at dolphins players by supposed dolphin fans? Exactly what are you trying to say, Gus played bad on purpose?? Come on, he was a dolphin player doing the best he could. Man I would hate to come here and be a player. If you were not a superstar every year you would be a dog. Man you guys are tough. Give em a break or we are never gonna get any FAs in here.

I dont think for a second that Gus didnt try his hardest. But honestly they could put me in to try my hardest, it doesnt matter though because I dont have the physical skills. Gus just doesnt have the skills to be a starting NFL QB

the difference between gus and feeley/2005 QBs is gus took care of the ball a lot better which is all miami wanted

17 tds and 13 ints is not bad compared to the quaterbacks we have had the past few years

He started off slow, but if someone has the time, please post Gus' stats over the last 6 games.

How well would he have taken care of the ball with the 2004 O-line protecting him (oxymoron) and without RW/RB in the backfield? That my friend is the right question.

I can not believe you suggest blaming Leinart. He has nothing to do with it. Leinart had every right to stay in college. He will be a better pro for it.

Well, had Leinart come out, there is no way Saban would have taken Smith if SF had taken Leinart.

Gus did what he is capable of doing and that is that. What we need is an upgrade to the position. Saban has said as much and most fans have also. It's not as much about crucifying Gus as it is enthusiasm towards acquiring an upgrade to the position...I'm sorry if I'm not satisified with Gus' performance last year. It was terrible. He is not responsible for the 6 game streak at the end. In fact, Sage won two of those 6 when Gus couldn't get the job done. At any rate, hopefully he is gone. BTW, this is not about him personally...it's about his performance last season that generally was poor. My reaction is mostly in response to others who feel that we should keep Gus. We should not settle for mediocre...Lets move on, even if that means McCown, Brooks Ramsey or Kitna...
