Hello all

I've only just joined the forum and hope you can help me with a quick question.

I live in Scotland, in the UK, and am coming over with my girlfriend for the game with the Patriots on the 6th. I'm wondering what the best way to get to the Landshark is?

We are staying on South Beach - is there public transport we can get to the stadium or, if not, is it feasible to get a cab i.e. how much would it cost? I think it's about 31 km.

We can hire a car but we'd both rather have a couple of beers if possible! :-)

Thomas

there is public transport but sundays are not the greatest,i would ask your hotel if they provide or know of a service that goes to the stadium, cabs are doable but are gonna be very expensive.......good luck

A taxi both ways is gonna cost you more than renting a car...right around 80 dollars each way....I don't think the bus will be running by the time you get out of the game but here is how to get there from South Beach....

You can get to the stadium from South Beach by using 2 buses. The bus fare is $1.50 per person, so that's $3.00 each way, per person. You would need to take Bus Route "S" in front of the C.V.S Pharmacy at the intersection of Washington Ave. & Lincoln Road. This bus takes you north thru Miami Beach & turns left on 192 St. & crosses Biscayne Bay & will stop @ Aventura Mall. It's here @ the Mall that you get off & switch buses. You now have to get on Bus Route 99. This bus will go west to the stadium.

and

the number for Yellow Taxi for the trip home if you need is 305-888-7777

Good luck and have fun....GO PHINS!!!!

@777

Thanks for the replies you guys, really really appreciated!

Lol, I don't think a taxi will be an option at that price - like you say, may as well hire a car for the weekend and we'd have it to use on the Saturday too.

The buses seem like a good option though (fabulous help there 777 thanks!), it will be fun and let us see parts of the city we might not have seen. Just one more question if I may though - are the buses an option for getting back to South Beach or will it be too late to get them when the game ends?

cheers, Thomas :-)

Just realised that the NFL have changed the game to 1pm start.....more of a chance of getting a bus back to South Beach?

Would be happy to walk back if we beat the Pats though!! :-))

thats gonna be a hell of a walk! (and when i say that i mean it's both far and might not be a great idea due to some of the neighborhoods you might pass through, depending on the route you take, miami has some rough places...) The bus should be running that time of day, most county bus lines run until late in the evening. anyway, enjoy the game and enjoy south beach. you should love it. First time in Miami?

Cab would be your best option I think. I suggest renting a car and driving yourself. You figure you can get a rental for roughly $50 a day but a cab ride to and from the stadium will probably run you $60 if you're coming from South Beach. Look into a rental my friend. You're much better off and most if not all hotels in the South Beach area offer valet parking. I know the Clevelander and the Colony both do. If you get a rental car, getting to the stadium is easy. Just head North on I-95 from South Beach and take exit 12 and head West on the turnpike. From there it's about 3/4 of a mile. You'll see the stadium coming down the turnpike. Take exit 2x.

@rkit55 - thanks for the reply, appreciate it! Yes, first time in Miami. Been a big fan since the 80's - turned 40 this year and my girlfriend got me the tickets to the Pats game. Boy am I looking forward to both the game and the holiday! Only seen the Fins in the flesh once before, at Wembley in London a couple of years ago in that dire game with the Giants. Looking forward to something much better this time! :-) btw, you mentioned that to walk would take us through some rough areas, what about getting the bus...would that take us through some neighbourhoods we'd rather not go through? :-0

@I MIZFIT I - lol, you rock! In Chad Henne I trust too!

@JCane - thanks for the reply and the advice. Hmm, you really sold the rental car option there but we'd definitely like to be able to have a beer. I'm going to see if I can find some timetables for the buses online and try to scout that out a bit more before deciding. If I do decide on a rental then your directions will be invaluable though...cheers :-))

I'd go with the rental car my man. Don't drink before you go to the game but leave in time to arrive four hours prior to kickoff so that you can do some tailgating. Get in the game, have a few more beers and cut yourself off at halftime. They stop selling beers at the end of the third quarter anyway. That's an NFL rule. By the time the game is over you'll be ok. And trust me, Miami-Dade County police and the Miami Gardens police around the stadium are just looking to get people back to the turnpike quickly. Unless you're just obviously tanked they're not gonna bother you. Trust me.

I wouldnt worry about much if you are in a bus. you'll be fine. but i would definitely endorse what jcane just said about the rental car. if you get to the game early, not only will you get to have a couple of drinks, you will get to meet some quality dolphin fans along the way. maybe toss the football, have a brat, and some laughs. I would say by far the best way to go to a fins game!

Hey JCane / rkit55 - you guys have really sold us on the rental car....thanks, your advice has been great!

This will be my first NFL match in the U.S - I was at the Fins-Giants in London and have been to more than a few NFL Europe games in Glasgow (lol anybody remember the Scottish Claymores?!) and a few World Bowls in Germany but what can I expect before the game at the Landshark?

You've given me a flavour rkitt55 - is there anything organised outside the stadium or is all the entertainment generated by the excellent Fins fans themselves? :-)

Hey Tupak, appreciate your offer of a ride but we're going to go for the rental and maybe head down to the Everglades on the Saturday. Thank you for the thought my friend!

There have been organized events before, I'm not sure if there will be on sunday, but there are always plenty of people that are more than welcoming on their own. The closer you get to the stadium, the more die-hard the tailgaters tend to be. Offering someone a beer has always gone a long way for me.

As far as what to expect; it will probably be a crowd more similar to the one at Wembley (is that right?) stadium than the crowd for NFL Europe games as it will be sure to be sold out against the Pats and the stadium holds approximately 70,000 people. Also, one thing to be prepared for is the sun. Most on their first time wouldn't think it, but even in December, I have seen (and experienced) plenty of pretty bad sunburns at a fins game. If you are fair-skinned, and it doesn't rain, you will need sunblock. Other than that, I believe Parking is $25 and if you take the turnpike, it will cost a few dollars in tolls. Enjoy the game!
