These comparisons are according to NFL Draft Scout. This site has made some excellent analysis on players coming out of the draft and had Miami's Jason Allens' abilities down to the "T".

I heavily rely on this site and this is what they have as comparisons for Gholston and Chris Long.

Gholston
Compares To: JOHN ABRAHAM-Atlanta...Both players rely on a perfect blend of strength and suddenness off the snap to wreak havoc in the backfield. Gholston has a relentless motor in pursuit. If he had more on-field experience, he could be an outstanding linebacker at the next level. However, with teams looking for hybrid Cover-2 pass rushers, he is perfectly capable of impacting the backfield coming off the edge or dropping back into the zone to cover vs. the pass. He is still a raw talent that gets by on his athletic ability, but in a few years, with patient coaching and more experience, he has the potential to change the game, much like Abraham, Dwight Freeney (Indianapolis) and Jason Taylor (Miami) have done playing in that role.

Chris Long
Compares To: AARON KAMPMAN-Green Bay...Like Kampman, Long is not the fastest, nor is he the strongest defensive end you will find. He lacks the blazing speed you look for in an edge rusher and will struggle to shed blocks at times, but like the Packers standout, he has great field savvy, vision and determination. He knows when he needs to avoid blockers rather than try to overpower them, as he really doesn't have that blow-up strength (good, not great) to dominate, anyway. What he does is take good angles in pursuit and display excellent lateral range working down the line. In a scheme that will let him press the outside shoulder of an offensive tackle, he will have good success. With his pad level and in-line instincts, he could also earn quality minutes as a defensive tackle in a 4-3 alignment, but is more ideally suited to play defensive end in a 3-4 formation.

I'll just add in Quentin Groves too.
Compares To: DeMARCUS WARE-Dallas...Much like the Chargers' Shawne Merriman and Ware, Groves has that explosive quickness and outstanding suddenness to wreak havoc in the backfield. He is a perfect fit for a hybrid outside linebacker/rush end position in a
3-4 defensive scheme and like Merriman and Ware, he could thrive if allowed to play in a stand-up position. He was having a banner senior campaign before dislocating several toes, but with his balance and body control, along with lateral movement, he should have no problems adjusting to playing off the line. With so much emphasis on pressuring the pocket and getting to the quarterback in the NFL, there is no other player in this draft that can match Groves' pass rushing ability.

Say Vernon Gholston and Tony Mandarich and Mike Mamula come to mind.

Scott Wright is normally pretty accurate with his assestments, but I have a real issue with his breakdown of Reche Caldwell and Anthony Collins. Both are flat out incorrect. Caldwell is a very physical receiver who is tremendous after the catch DUE to his elusiveness and ability to change direction.. and Collins has some of the best footwork in this draft besides Sam Baker.

I'm also a big fan of Quentin Groves. I strongly believe he will be better than Gholston.

Chris Long actually reminds of me of Adalius Thomas. He is versatile enough to play mutilple positions and play it well.

I think Kampmann is a great comparison for Chris Long if he's a 4-3 DE. As a 3-4 OLB Mike Vrabel comes to mind. Either one is a bit underwhelming for a first round pick. The other two are a bit surprising but I think point out how both have more upside although I only see Gholston as surpassing Long three years out

Hey what'd he say about Allen by the way.

Man...if we could get Chris Long AND Quentin Groves, Tom Brady will need a lot more than pads. He might want to pick up some depends!

Reche Caldwell? Or his brother?
