If we dont take OL Jake Long with the 1st pick, I think our next priority should be LB's - they are our achillies heel in the 3/4 scheme.
Other than porter, who replaces Zach?
Gholston looks like a playmaker to me. Big, fast, and with all the measurables and production from ohio State.
He would be a force on blitzes and run stopping.
Let the critic's chime in...

I'm dead serious when i say this, he is the next Shawne Merriman minus the roids. If we can somehow swing a trade with Atlanta and get their 3rd pick we need to take this guy. I keep thinking that taking him at #1 would be too high but when you really think about it who says we can't? All the draft rankings say it would be stupid but in all honesty draft rankings are just someone's opinion. A couple of years ago Shawne Merriman went in the middle of the 1st round but probably should have went alot higher.

Gholston is nasty. We really do need another DE from somewhere tho. Prob wont be Long even if we do draft him.

I've heard a lot of rumors of us targeting Kendall Langford of Hampton in the late 2nd/early 3rd round. He'd be a nice 3-4 DE and doesn't have to start right away with Holliday, R. Wright, Starks etc. playing in front of him. I'm not sure what to do with Matt Roth.

Id trade Roth and Crowder in any kind of package deal we could get for them.

Roth yes - I'd move him. Crowder, however, I think has a chance to shine in the middle of a 3-4 D. He's not responsible for aligning the wholel defense like Zach was in the 4-3 heydey and is a bigger LB capable of shedding blocks. I remember his rookie season when we played in the 3-4 hybrid and his play really stood out. Obviously he's not a turnover generating machine, off the top of my head I can only think of him forcing Daniel Graham to fumble in 2006, but he's a sure tackler up the middle.

Personally, if Gholston is drafted, I could see this lineup:

OLB - Moses
ILB - Porter
ILB - Crowder
OLB - Gholston

If Moses can't handle starting right away, put Torbor in for Porter and keep Porter on the outside, his natural position - though I think he could benefit us playing inside as well.

Wow, what a LB core that would be!!! I would LOVE to have Gholston IF we trade back a few spots.

One thing is for sure, I would HATE to see him in a Pat's uniform.

even if miami doesnt trade the 1st pick gholston should be taken with that pick..scouts r calling him the next shawn merriman..he is a playmaker and that is soemthing this defense needs

I would be fine with taking Gholston with the top pick. The guy is a beast. He is no more or less of a "risk" or sure thing than any of the other top 10 projected players
