If Miami picks one of the 2 (C Long or Gholston), you Ghol fans GOTTA know Parcells and company will pick Long.
It is so obvious.. When Calvin Pace was in here Parcells and company told him specifically that they were looking for LEADERS on D. And they requested that he be one of them.. Pace didn't like that so he opted for the Jets.. He said the Jets just wanted him to be "one of the guys".
Gholston is a "one of the guys" type of player.. Chris Long drips in leadership ability like the Niagara Falls. It's such a no brainer that I can't believe people are wasting their time thinking about Gholston. Because all you are doing is wasting your time.
Parcells and company will pick Long over Gholston every day of the week and twice on Sundays..
Again, I'll bring this up. Chris Long had very middle-of-the-road seasons his first two years, then all of the sudden turns it up a few notches his senior year? Gholston's younger both in age and in football years, and his first year as a starter notched more sacks and tfl than Chris Long did in his first 2.5 seasons of play.

Sure, Long's a lot more athletic without the pads on than VG, but VG's first step blows him away on the field. They both have experience dropping into coverage; sure Long batted a few more balls away at the line, but a majority of his sacks came against Wyoming and Middle Tennessee state, while half of Gholston's came against teams with better O-lines in Michigan and Wisconsin - so who played against better competition? Jeff Otah pretty much handled Long in their meeting while Gholston has been the only player in the NCAA to give Jake Long fits, not one, but two years in a row.
And as far as the familiarity with Al Groh and pedigree and all that. Well Parcells drafted Bobby Carpenter in his last draft - similar situation, family ties (dad) and all that. Bobby Carpenter hasn't done much of anything for Dallas.
As far as leadership is concerned, yes Chris Long is a rah-rah guy and Gholston is a leader by example. There's no Ray Lewis type of character on the New England Patriots D, nor the Chicago Bears, nor the Indianapolis Colts. We already have Joey Porter, so I think this issue is a non-issue.
I'll be happy with either prospect, but Chris Long is not nearly as much better, if better at all, than Gholston, as a lot of people on this site would like to believe. He's got better numbers over the course of a longer career in a defense that's keyed around him. Vernon Gholston's #'s are pretty much on par, and with another 15 games experience to match Chris Long's, they'd probably be better than Chris Long's, even in a defense that's purpose is to funnel playes to LB's like James Laurinaitis and Marcus Freeman.
