Giant Raid and FA's

Ok, so now that the Giant's have taken care of the Paties. Who do you think Parcels will try to convince to come over as Miami's OC. Will he come from the Giants or the Paties?

The raid I’m referring to is Chris Palmer. Now that you have seen what he has done for Eli Manning’s career, would you welcome him with open arms?

Here's part of an old article I found from ESPN.

“The highly-respected Palmer served last year as the Dallas Cowboys' quarterbacks coach. He was granted permission last week to meet with Giants' officials, and his addition to Tom Coughlin's staff was officially announced Monday.
Palmer also worked for Coughlin in 1997-98, as quarterbacks coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars and the two have remained close friends.
Ostensibly, Palmer replaces Kevin Gilbride, who was promoted to offensive coordinator three weeks ago. The Giants dismissed offensive coordinator John Hufnagel with one week remaining in the regular season.
Manning will join a long list of first-round quarterbacks who have worked with Palmer during his long tenure in the league. Some of the others include Drew Bledsoe, Tim Couch and David Carr. In addition, Palmer was instrumental in the development of Mark Brunell in Jacksonville.â€

Most of the signs have been pointing in the direction of Palmer. But, I wasn't too impressed with him as an OC or head coach.

I believe they had to wait until after the SB. At least that's what I'm hoping for.

Palmer (as an OC) was considered by many as punchless while at Texas. But they were an expansion team with no OL. He's till young and now has a tast of the ultimate prize. Could he have been held back by Caper? I don't know? So come on Dolfans... speak up. Who should be our new OC?

Len Pasquarelli swears that Chris Palmer is out of the mix for the Offensive Coordinator position. KB21 and I naturally started looking toward the rest of the assistants to see if maybe Palmer gave a heads up to our guys about a person that would make a great underling for Sparano.

You see, I've had a few doubts about the viability of Sparano hiring a person like Chris Palmer as his underling, considering their relationship. This is a CLEAR CUT mentor/pupil relationship between Sparano and Palmer. Palmer has even said he regards the man as like a son. I have to say, you're an offensive guy and you're hiring an offensive assistant...do you hire your dad? To me, that might be awkward...because at some point as an offensive guy yourself you're going to want to be telling your offensive coordinator what to do, and one day you may see the need to wrest play calling duties away from him (like Jim Fassel did to Sean Payton the year the Giants went to the Super Bowl), and maybe some day, you're looking at firing him.

A long time ago Nick Saban worked under Bill Belichick. They've been great friends for years, but I have seen reports that after their stint in Cleveland together they pretty much agreed that one would not work underneath the other again like that. We could be seeing the same thing with Tony Sparano and Chris Palmer. I severely HOPE we are.

I think it could be Mike Sullivan. Sullivan is the WRs coach of the Giants. He's helped make Plaxico Burress into a true #1 receiver there, catching for 3200+ yards and 29 TDs in the three years since joining the Giants. He also helped Steve Smith the rookie come along this year and be a major contributor by the Super Bowl. He has one major qualification, as well...he coached with Tony Sparano in 2002 with the Jaguars. That year he was Tom Coughlin's defensive quality control coach. He was literally the only member of the Coughlin staff to be retained under Jack Del Rio...switched to an offensive assistant.

That could be the guy they're looking at.

Actually now that I look at it, it could easily be Jerald Ingram. Ingram also served on the Jags back in 2002 as their RBs coach. His qualifications are impeccable, both in terms of his work as a RBs coach for the Jaguars from 1994 to 2002, and his work as a RBs coach for the Giants from 2004 to 2007.

Also KEEP your eyes out for a raid on Tom Coughlin players with the Giants. Gibril Wilson is a free agent. He played excellently during the post season and has been a talented safety throughout.

There are also rumors that the Giants may trade Jeremy Shockey and go with the cheaper alternative, Kevin Boss.

As far as G-men I would not want Shockey. Talented but a distraction. To me it is telling that they win the SB without Barber and Shockey together. One retired the other one probably needs to be playing anywhere else but in Miami. I would not mind Boss at first notion but on second thought is he more than a role player / one year wonder?

On that defense my wish list without even looking at FA status would be IMO Pierce and Webster. Pierce shoots up the gaps perfectly to take on ball carriers and is a headhunter who can run sideline to sideline. Webster developed into a very good CB this year after a rocky start.

Now for a reality list; do anyone know who besides Wilson are a FA? Who they have with any value for the Dolpins besides Shockey / Boss would they trade?

Here's a link to some of this NFL's 2008 free agents. I didn't see a lot of "G" men on the their list.
