Giants | Capers could become team's next defensive coordinator
Fri, 12 Jan 2007 17:54:23 -0800
Vinny DiTrani, of the Bergen Record, reports the New York Giants could hire Miami Dolphins defensive coordinator Dom Capers to become the team's next defensive coordinator.

Talk about the need to overhaul the entire defensive front seven, then regardless of what kinda front the G-Men use they need an overhaul.

I thought Dom turned them down yesterday??? Anyone know for sure, or is he still being considered for the Gmen?

Yesterday we saw a story that Capers could be the next Miami HC.The key word is could.

Except at DE, they've got three i'd like to have in miami. But Dt and LB, not so much...

Reasons why I think he won't go to New York is because first, they don't have the players that fit his system; too many under sized players and Strahan can't play OLB. Second, Coughlin's future is in doubt, so stability is a huge factor; you're just asking for an inconsistant future. Third, ZT and JT loves the guy, the defense likes him, he has never won this much respect from his own players.

Stay in Miami Capers; you're the best thing that has happened for our team in a while.

Yup Yup!
Not to mention he is making some good money! So i dont see why he would leave if he is not getting promoted to a Head Coachin Job.

While Capers remains a candidate, the Dolphins also are making preparations to keep him as defensive coordinator if they hire a different head coach.

The Dolphins were so impressed by Capers this season - his defense ranked fourth in the league in yards allowed - that club officials have talked about making him the highest-paid coordinator in the league in order to keep him, two sources said.

Capers is staying.

I think Wayne is going to try to hang onto Capers. I hear that JT and Zach were pretty happy with him this year. I read today that Wayne is not letting some of the assistants interview until they nab a head coach. This has got to be putting some pressure on the headhunters to pull the trigger on a HC. I would like the headhunters to just be cool and rational about all this ... don't get too trigger happy. Just get us the best guy possible.

They don't have the players to play the 3-4 like Miami does.

The record also says its highly unlikely that Capers would due this because he would find himself in the same boat next year when (and he will be) Coughlin is fired.

2008 Bill Cowher will be the Giants HC.

I think that article came out before Dom turned them down.

I read the Dolphins were willing to make Dom the Highest paid coordinator, If he stays put with us and doesnt become the Coach....This guy has done a marvelous job with our D.Imagine if we bring in more talent at the Defense no reason to think we couldn't have the # 1 overall

He CAN'T leave to be a DC elsewhere. The Dolphins have to grant him permission, and they've already said they won't do that. Where do these writers come up with this stuff? The journalist who wrote the article wants Capers, so starts a rumor... what an ***.
