So, the league has already agreed to move the Saints home game with the Giants to New Jersey....

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/8798023

"The Saints and Giants will donate a portion of the gate proceeds from the game to Hurricane Katrina relief. "

Now, while I understand there is an urgent need to schedule a alternative site for a game 2 1/2 weeks away, this above sentence strikes me as mildly insulting. The Giants had better give THE ENTIRE sum of proceeds to the relief fund. Not a portion.

Heck, they get a ninth home game for their NFL season. How nice. But they'll only release a "portion" of the proceeds for their handout? Give me a break.

On a side note, I really feel the NFL should be doing things to make it a bit EASIER for the Saints this season, certainly not HARDER.

I don't know how negotiations are going for securing LSU's facilities, but the Saints and the league should make it a priority to keep the team as close to home as possible this season. If for nothing else than for the community to have a diversion and a sense of pride and normalcy in the midst of so much loss.

Letting some other area profit, financially or otherwise, from a displaced franchise is a real slap in the face to Louisianians who've already lost enough. If the league sends them to Los Angeles to "test the waters", then they should be ashamed.

I, for one, will be routing very, very hard for the Saints this season. Especially at New York on Sept. 18.

sorry... i didn't mean to create this thread here.... i thought i was in "General NFL"... my mistake

This is bad. How in the world can the Giants get 9 home games and everybody else only 8? The NFL screwed up on this one.

i especially like the final quote...

however, while they're keeping a stiff upper lip, and remaining proud and not "asking for handouts," objectively speaking, they will be at a HUGE disadvantage this season... there's way more to homefield advantage than merely the crowd cheering for you....

regardless... good luck, Saints!

Damn that really sucks, if anything the Saints should be getting some breaks this year. I really hope the Saints win that game and I bet that they'll finish off better than the Giants anyway despite all the tragedy they've been dealing with.

Games should have been moved to Mexico City. Pack 100,000 in a stadium, donate some of that money!

All we hear about is wanting a team in Mexico City......well now you have a team with 8 games that need to be played. This is a perfect situation.

I think the Saints are now going to have a bad season. A last place season. Can't blame them for it, but I see a 4 or 5 win team here.

Giving the Giants an extra home game is Bullsh*t! With the way the NFL is these days an extra home game can mean the difference of getting in the playoffs or not. There are alot of places this game should be, including where the Saints are training now the Alamodome. I was at the Dolphin game against SD in Tempe so having a game at a neutral site is not unprecidented. The NFL screwed up on this one and it could cost an NFC team a playoff spot IMO.

ah well... New Orleans didn't play very well after all... but i still don't understand why this game wasn't at say, Houston's Reliant Stadium, where displaced refugees could have walked across the parking lot to see their Saints perhaps for free? ... Baton Rouge? San Antonio, where the players and families are comfortable?... the Giants aren't that much better than the Saints, and this could be considered something that could have tipped the delicate balance...

they could have still held their telethon in New York, no one's disputing that...

but, anyone who dismisses the affect of home field advantage in the NFL is really missing something... for a league that strives for "competitive balance", i feel the New York-based NFL was really short-sighted and hasty on this one... this should have been a road game for the Giants, as well as the Saints... you can bet the other NFC East teams are quietly fuming...

the Giants and their fans gave the Saints a warm welcome.... and then they kicked the ball off...

a good read about it, here, from a few weeks ago:

What the NFL did was a complete joke, they gave an NFL team an extra home game. They could have played anywhere across the Country where it wouldn't have been an advantage for the Giants but they chose to give the giants another home game. Never has a team been given a bigger advantage in the history of the NFL and it's a disgrace what the league did.

stop agreeing with me right now... you'll throw the cosmic balance off-kilter...

on a relevant side note...

i do remember a dolphins at chargers game moved to arizona due to the wild fires... not miami...
