Saban gave Webster some comforting news: If he was still available at No. 46, he would be heading to Miami.

A few minutes later, Saban called back with a different message: Congratulations and good luck on your career with the Giants, who beat the Dolphins to the punch by three draft spots.

Webster thanked Saban. And not only for calling to wish him well. He was also grateful for the coach's guidance three years earlier when he convinced him to switch from wide receiver to cornerback.

"I never played defensive back until I got with him," Webster said during the Giants' rookie minicamp over the weekend, "so I give him credit for teaching me everything I know now."

It would have been nice to have drafted Webster.

I honestly feel that Daniels will be as good a pro as Webster when all is said and done. Even if eventually Daniels moves to FS. Daniels just strikes me as the type of athlete that has his best days ahead of him.

I'd rather have Roth and Daniels than Webster and someone else.

I'm glad we got Roth instead. I think he can start day one, it just depends where Carter plays.

Is it safe to say that if Poole didn't go down, that not as many people would be saying they wish we drafted Webster as there are now? I think so...

Webster would have been a higher risk pick than Roth. He looked pretty bad at times during the Senior Bowl. I would have wanted him in the 3rd. Roth was a much better pick.
