Why when the "experts" talk about Ginn they say he's not a good "route runner" or "in the NFL he'll be jammed at the line"?

I managed to talk to Ginn's college coach [Tressel] during the weekend of the Buckeye's spring game 1 week before the draft and we talked about Ginn, Gonzalez, and Troy Smith. Coach mentioned the route running issues and said that "Teddy ran the routes we designed and did a great job at it". When I mentioned the "experts" saying the jamming at the line bit he laughed and said "I'm sure they'll try, but if they miss he's gonna be 20 yds past them in the blink of an eye ... that'll put a stop to that."

From that day I was hoping we somehow got Teddy Ginn but to be honest I was still bettin on Quinn if he fell to us.

If he makes them miss just 1 or 2 jams per series they'll pay!!!!!

even the most veteran NFL WR's constantly work on their technique for beating jams and press coverage

I have a feeling that a 5'10' 180 CB is gonna need alot of development before he can do the same

I think he has the lateral quickness to succeed eventually and being a good citizen and coach's son will help

Ginn is gonna be a great asset to this team..I cant wait!

it's not a misconception. He is not a good route runner as of right now, He does need to work on it. Ever see him do an out route or hitch? You see him do seam routes, posts and slants. They are all speed routes and he does them very well. He has yet to show that he can break off this route, be elusive and cut to the ball. The hitches i have seen him do are poor. He does not come back for the ball - he stops and waits and by the time the ball comes the CB is there. He has the ability to learn it all and be good at it but as of now he hasn't shown that he is good at it.

I get the knock on his route running but he can and will improve on that. What gets me is this notion that Ginn will "never" get off the line. Sure he'll initially lose some press battles but like Tressel said "if they miss..."

I bet these same experts had similar opinions about M. Harrison & S. Smith. No, Ginn is not seasoned like those two but they both are listed at 185 (and that's being generous). I'm not worried about TG getting stronger.
