Last week at Ohio State’s media day, an out-of-town reporter asked Ginn what positions he has played at OSU.
"I play wide receiver, that’s basically it," Ginn said. "Throw a touchdown (pass), kick return, punt return."
The clipped way in which he answered hinted at longing. It prompted a follow-up question: Will he leave Ohio State regretting that he never played defensive back? Ginn was a star cornerback in high school  the USA Today Defensive Player of the Year in 2003 at Cleveland Glenville.
Uncharacteristically, Ginn dropped his guard and abandoned his habit of giving vague, just-gotta-play-hard answers.
"Well, you know, that’s still my first love," he said. "I’ll die and say that I was a DB. But you know, there’s still time  there’s still time in my life to still be able to fulfill my dream."
That certainly sounded as if Ginn wants to play defense in the NFL. After the Buckeyes play in the national championship game Jan. 8 against Florida, he is expected to declare himself for the draft.
