I know some people are distraught that we haven't signed any PREMIER free agents with salaries that would make Bill Gates proud. Some people also feel that we SUCK. I've come to the realization that due to the large number of Fins fans on this website, you will NEVER be able to please every single one of them. With this said, you have to look at both sides of the coin. No, we didn't sign any big names and that shouldn't be any big surprise. We know Parcells hasn't always been one for big names. Big name equals big contract and we don't want to break the bank for one or two players when we have alot of holes to fill. 2nd, what has signing big names to big money gotten us in the past? It's awful quiet..........3rd, look what's going on with other teams right now. They're signing these above average guys to massive contracts, and other veterans are getting pissed off wondering where their money increase is! That destroys teams because some players get the mentality that the guy next to them is getting paid more, so why should they make any extra effort. They begin to feel like the team owes them more, it then becomes a "ME" issue, instead of the focus being on the "team".
We also know that Parcells has a track record of bringing in BIG guys, and this hasn't changed. Every guy we've signed has gotten bigger than the previous guy in that spot. He has been successful doing this in the past, and we probably shouldn't judge these moves until we've seen these guys play.
The players we're bringing in are also (with the exception of maybe one or two) younger, whereas in the past we've brought in older veterans. Again, where did that get us? Why is it so quiet in here......The defense seemed to wear down during the 2nd half, and we couldn't hold a lead if we had it.
The team is also bringing in younger players because we're in a full rebuild mode. Why bring in multiple high priced veterans that may play for 2 or 3 more years? We have to build for the long term. I for one don't think that we're destined to "suck". Last year we redefined the word, but I think with the new coaching staff and players we're bringing in we will be great in do time....give it a chance to work

I agree. Build for the long haul....draft the O-line first (Jlong) bc those positions are damn near solidified, then it's the highest rated QB (I think Flac. or Wood.) will be available, then we have two young QB's to compete, after that it is ALL defense!!

Well said!
Parcells is not an 'unknown' like the past couple of people the Dolphins have had running things have been.
He has a proven track record of rebuilding teams.
If he is happy with his FA pick-ups, I am too! :)

It's still frustrating to see all these big name guys get signed by other teams. We definitely wanted to make other moves and they didn't happen. The one that I was most pissed about was Flozell. IMO this is going to take a few years, I hope we have a very solid draft and make at least two more solid moves or signing this offseason. We definitely have to take Jake long with the first pick, I think. I was one of those somewhat 'distraught' 'fins fans a few days ago, but we just have to have faith in Parcells.

Something to keep in mind. It seems Parcels is focused on the bigger picture. While there are some positions you can be successful with "ok" talent and "coach up" to make up some slack, there are other positions, like nose tackle, that you need to have a baller.

So go young, bring in as many as you can. I'm pretty sure losing out on Pace does not make Parcells happy, but he obviously felt the price was too steep. But you win some you lose some.

Just because you have 40mil to spend, does not mean you go out and spend it. Cap spent on over-aged ballers this year is money we can not spend next year. So the short sighted, "cap dollars don't roll over to next year" excuse is weak. If we have another 40mil next season, we can secure our diamond in the rough players from this year and bring in fresh young talent again next year.

All I expect this year is improvement. 5 to 7 wins would be great imo.

This year 5 wins or better would be great. Then all we can hope for is to improve on that everyseason. Patience will be needed.

Bill is laying a good foundation to build on and that going to take time. It will need the draft and good free agents...

In one sense its good to not to driving up the price these players get paid its way too much just to play the game of football. I am sure some agents would argue this point but its realy not good in the long haul for the sport. There should be caps on what these guys can make especially the rookies in the first round. yes I want the Phins to get better but I think we are better served binging in 10 guys with promise than 1 or 2 guys who were studs but may not have that same desire or end up getting injured.
