Give Props to Turner Gill

Got to hand it to Coach Gill, he took probably the worst Division 1 football program and won the MAC Championship in 3 years (and the MAC has some very good schools in it). Also, to watch the emotion shown by everybody after the game was great. Gill building up the program, the AD in tears because he hired the right guy, the fans getting to celebrate their first title ever.

If Gill does not get a bigger job soon it is a travesty.
 
I know many alum and considered going to that school. He absolutely was the right hire after winning 2 games a year was considered a success. The rumor was last season he was the guy Nebraska wanted. Though they couldn't justify hiring him because of his inexperience. If Syracuse does not do everything in it's power to bring him in the AD would be crazy.

I did think that Ball St. scored on the run which would've made the game 24-14. UB did get the benefit of questionable calls which swung the momentum.
 
He'd have a good idea in recruiting that region as well if he went to SU.

Would be a great hire for them.

correct, last year a lot of Nebraska people wanted him, but he was only in his second year as a HC, and had only won 2 games his first year and 5 his second. Wazzou showed a little bit of interest, but Turner was not interested in moving out to Washington (plus that job is a mess)

It was either him or Pelini. Speculation had it that he was the guy Osborne wanted to hire. He just couldn't because he hadn't accomplished enough. I don't think Pelini was a bad hire. Nebraska is just a mess from what Callahan did. Pelini or Monte Kiffin probably should've gotten the job instead of Callahan a few years back
 
What a game to be at! It was awesome, great win for UB, hopefully we can keep Gill for one more year. Def worth my 20$ price of admission.

IMO that might be too big of a step for Gill this early in his career. IMO he should go to a school like Syracuse or Louisville before he goes to a big time SEC program.

I agree ...You have to hit the ground running in the SEC.
Its so cut throat ,you have to win FAST.
I love the SEC!!!!
Turner will be a great coach....Miss St would be a better fit than Auburn.
Nothing racial,its just ,he would be allowed more time.

I agree with that. Miss State there are no expectations. The ONLY reason Croom was forced out was he got blown out against Ole Miss. If they hadn't lost that badly (and got shut out to boot), Croom would still be there. Gill would get crucified if he got to a BCS Bowl Game but lost to Alabama at Auburn.

Gill was voted a top 10 recruiter nationally while he was an assistant at Nebraska so maybe that helps him.

I will say this, the Auburn message boards are rallying support to get Gill hired (which Syracuse has been doing all year, and Miss State wants to see happen as well). The Buffalo message board I went to actually isn't expecting Gill back, but none of them are angry that he'll probably leave because they are just thankful for what he did in his 3 years at Buffalo.

With the lack of african american coaches I think race may benefit him. I'm not going to say a guy should get a job because of race. Though looking at the statistics of black to white coaches it is absurd.
 
Turner Gill deserves to be a head coach of a big time program. What he has done with the Buffalo program is remarkable!
