Is this the carrot we dangle to get someone good? Ala Jimmy Johnson. Would this attract either Harbaugh? Someone of that quality? Could that be the plan?

If we don't hit a homerun at head coach, we are going to be doing the same thing come January, three years from now. I have zero faith in Grier.

I mean if you don't give either Harbaugh some power other than coaching why would they leave for a situation like this?

No, Grier is the GM. Ross would never go back on that after he did that press conference, he’d look like a fool yet again.

...Maybe he will, idk

Yeah, I am a little confused. So Grier takes over for Tannebaum but does not get the Title, just cutting off another needless hand in the kitchen. Well I guess that is fine with a young up and comer or someone wanting a shot. To get better or more seasoned coach you probably need to give them control.

I hope, while the dust is still in the air, most of the fans are starting to get comfy with the idea most of the players on this roster will not be here in 3 years.

Only those drafted by Grier have anyone in the building loyal to them. And if they dont scheme-fit, buh bye.

Wake may have played his last down for us.

And now most are going to see the reality of the business side of the NFL.

Anyone you think is a rising star or integral part of this team, just became a tradeable asset.

I said recently I felt this is why X has not been approached about an extension. It gives us flexibility to trade him for picks if he stays on his rookie deal.

I would honestly say no one on this roster should feel they know where they are playing next year.

With this franchise

who knows. But as a fan we rarely if ever go the full blown rebuild. Hey I am good with trotting out Fales next yr behind a **** line and face plant. Take this year and stock up the lines in the draft. But will we? Hell I would be good with going all in on Haskins if he is the guy. Just have a plan.

The scheme of the HC will determine wjo stays and who goes.
Having said that it is impossible to replace everyone in one season.
Our best players will stay and the old and injury prone will be gone first.
Im actually excited for changes.

Grier is basically Big Head from Sillicon Valley: Falling his way up the corporate ladder

It is, after all, a business, and every player is an asset, or liability. You still have to field a team that is, at least marginally cohesive, and that takes players.

Guys like MF, Drake, and any later round picks, on rookie deals, such as Ballage and Baker will be here. LT will surely be here.

You have a point about X being a guy you could flip for picks in the right situation. I haven't gotten into what he wants $ wise going forward, but it may be another case like Landry, where the price is just to high to be sensible.

I think the best way to look at it is that Grier isn’t taking over for MT, ross just removed the stupid made up position that he occupied that apparently sat just above GM and just below owner.

I'm glad he’s realizing how asinine that power structure was. TBH this is the thing that gives me the most hope for the future.

As for luring a seasoned coach, while you can’t offer the GM position, it will at least be a hell of a lot easier than if Tannenbaum was still jamming his greasy hands into everything.

Besides, its not a very common thing to give that title to a coach, if I’m not mistaken Belichik is the only one that technically carries a GM title. There are coaches like Pete Carrol, Gruden and formerly Marvin Lewis who are just very plugged into the decision making of the actual GM; which you can integrate with Miami’s new coach if it’s necessary.

The front office has to work as a team but with an obvious hierarchy. A GM should hire his own coach if he's going to draft his own players.

That's the way it should be. The Patriots have clouded a lot of people's judgement on how a team should be constructed and what constitute's "good".

Rebuilding and cleaning the house are not what we need.

An identity is.

Well if we kept anyone than Grier was the guy that made the most sense. Just have a vision.
