So, I'm playing GM for SO's annual forum-wide mock draft. Here's my draft so far:

Dolphins
  • 1.01 - Chris Long, DE Virginia
  • 2.01 - Gosder Cherilus, OT BC
  • 2.26 - Charles Godfrey, CB Iowa
  • 3.01 - Brad Cottam, TE Tennessee
  • 4.01 - Andre Woodson, QB Kentucky

In the 1st I would have gone w/Jake Long, but can live with Chris. Don't like your 2a selection of Gosder Cherilus, OT BC. Godfrey's a good choice for your next pick. Cottam injury history would make me pass on him. I think Woodson is overrated and might be out of the league in a couple of years.

What's wrong with Gosder? IMO he's the second best OT in the draft and were I picking for Miami I'd love to have the problem of making Carey and Cherilus fight it out for the LT/RT positions. Cottam was the best WR/TE available at the time, so I addressed a need (there was a huge run on WR and TE in the 1st/2nd.) As for Woodson, he was drafted to fill the void in the #3 QB slot, for which he is supremely overtalented.

Cherilus is not the second best OT in the draft. Are you forgetting guys like Clady and Williams or do you really think Cherilus is better than them? Don't get me wrong, I think he was a nice pick at #32. I just think he's the 5th best tackle in the class. As for Cottam, he's got some great tools but he's hasn't done squat production-wise. I want somebody a little more proven with that pick. I really like the Godfrey pick. Woodson was an okay pick too but I think we need either guard or ILB more.

I like it except I think we take Molden or King with the 64 and with 100 I dont think Woodson is worth anything more than a 6th. Henne would be better. Id take Carlson with the #100

On Somethingawful.com, I drafted as such:

Jake Long
Dan Connor
Martellus Bennet
Roy Schueneg ( best guard at 3rd )
then I traded up to the bottom of the 3rd to grab Tyrell Johnson using our 4th, and our bottom 6th.

Carlson was gone by #100. I would've taken him in the 3rd or taken Finley or Davis later. Actually, Rachal was there in the 3rd. He would've been a great pick. Also would've opted for either Phillip Wheeler or Beau Bell in the 4th. Either player would probably start for the Fins. Thats a lot better than drafting a 3rd QB.

Hate it. I would prefer to go with Jake Long at number one. Cherilus gets beat a lot for a supposedly elite tackle. I have voiced my disgust of taking Brad Cottam many times. Andre Woodson in the fourth is intriguing though.

Cherilus is an elite OT if you look at him as a RT(where he was dominant), but he is pretty beat at LT. Question is whether or not Carey stays on the left.

Hate the Brad Cottam pick. hate it, hate it, hate it. Combine and workout numbers be damned, the dude has always been injured and was never productive when healthy.

nailed the first 3, then it all went to hell. Cherilus will make a heck of a lot less money than Jake Long will to play RT and they should play it around the same caliber.

I don't even see him as an elite RT. He still gets beat a lot on the right side. I'm pretty sure I saw a post by Boomer discussing Kellen Davis, the TE from Michigan St. who also played DE occasionally and he said that Davis got past Cherilus seemingly at will. Davis is a great athlete, but if Cherilus can't handle a part time defensive player, how is he going to handle NFL pass rushers?
