Mueller got QB's input on Cameron hire

[FONT=Verdana,Arial, Helvetica]It's not often that a third-string quarterback assists in the hiring of a head coach, but that's what happened when Dolphins General Manager Randy Mueller took advantage of Cleo Lemon's history with Cam Cameron.

"I'll be honest, I talked to Cleo," Mueller said. "Cleo had him and [I spoke to him] when [Jets offensive coordinator] Brian Schottenheimer was a candidate. Cleo was a good resource for us. He may not want that out, but I'm telling you he was good.

that's interesting. Not something you hear about everyday, but, why not. Cleo knew them both and has just as much insight as anyone with regards to the types of people and coaches they are.

Sounds more and more like Cleo's gonna get a real shot at the starting job.

I wouldn't say he's got a shot at the starting job. Lemon was just a valuable resource in terms of firsthand knowledge on how two serious coaching candidates did their jobs.

It would be negligent to have NOT spoken with Lemon.

I loved that article. Cleo Lemon saved us from Chan Gailey!

I am really starting to like Cleo, he's got a lot of heart, and he's a hell of a hard worker. The more I read the more it seems Cleo just might end up being the starter next year.

"He has been," Cameron said. "Unless someone breaks the record this year, he was the first player that we had at that time to go three consecutive years and never miss a workout.

"That tells you about Cleo Lemon because I think that's the first and most important thing being a quarterback, he has to be the hardest worker in your organization.

"Now, can he be [the starter]? Well, we'll find out. He's done the first part."

Notice what Cameron said? Obviously at the very least thier will be an open competition in training camp and Cameron won't be fooled like Saban was with regards to Daunte at the start of this past season.

Hey, Culpeppers not a sure thing anymore. It's certainly not gonna be Joey. Even if Brady Quinn were to fall to us at #9, he'd still need a year to groom.

Cleo's got as much a shot as anyone. Especially since he already knows how the head coach works...

I love how that's what you get out of this.

The guy was coached by Cam, so Mueller asked his opinion of him since they were looking at hiring Cam and somehow a GM's asking a backup QB's opinion of a coach equals Cleo getting a real shot at starting.

That logic is infallible.

I wouldn't mind giving Cleo a shot but if we are going into training camp relying on the same 3 QB's we might be in a world of hurt.

I think cleo has great potetial to be a great starter all he needs to do is keep doing what he is doing working out everyday good work ethic that is what cleo has i think he should be are starter and will be good or even great with under cam

I agree here.

We have other areas of need BUT if Culpepper dosen't come back at least at a serviceable level were indeed in deep doodie and you can write off anything for next year IMO.

That is of course without having knowledge of any FA QB or drafted QB's we might attain.

I don't think there is much chance of that, I think Cleo get's re-signed and either Culpepper or Harrington gets cut. If Daunte doesnt make a miraculous turnaround he likely could end up being the victim of the cap because by cutting him we would split his cap hit over 2 years and actually save a few mill on the cap next year.

One thing seems certain though if Daunte is still with us come pre-season he will be the starter because it is entirely too expensive to keep the guy if he is not going to play. So the only way he stays is if Cameron is fully confident in him.

I love cleo and believe he played our finest game of any of our quarterbacks last year against indy, but if daunte is healthy thats one talented motivated quarterback, cleo will be our great 2nd,,bye bye joey,i wish you well

I don't understand the pessimism. The last game of this season we were about 60 seconds from defeating the colts. The Colts who may be this years SB champs. If Cleo would have had a few more seconds to work with I beleive we defeat the Colts. And look what we did to the Bears and the Patriots; We trounced them. How can anyone not be optimistic about a Cleo led offense with RB and RW running, and with an improved line a new starting receiver corps.
