GM Jeff Ireland talks about pursuit of Peyton Manning and QB's

Like I said from the beginning, I trust the judgment on Flynn and Peyton was always Peyton and I don't hold that against Ireland, bringing in Garrard and getting a QB in the draft is a decent backup plan, assuming that is his plan.

What I have a problem with is the fact that Ireland didn't fill one other high priority need this offseason, no RT no Safety, no pass rushing OLB, adding WR to the list of needs oh by the way QB is still lingering as well. It would take two or three drafts to fill those needs, let alone one.

Your goal in free agency should be to emerge a better team, I don't think there is one person who can honestly say Miami is a better team right now because of who they signed.

“I believe in value. What we try to do is we try to be aggressive in looking at ways to improve the team, but we’re not going to be reckless and give up far more than we think we’re giving up in return. That goes with any position, not just quarterback.”

Ok, trade 2 2nd round picks for Marshall. Couple years later accept 2 3rd round draft picks for him....brilliant.
He said he's all about value. He forgot to mention that sometimes it's about negative value, i.e. trading your #1 receiver for much less than it cost to acquire him, extending your incompetent head coach after two losing seasons only to have him ruin yet a third one in a row-- that kind of thing. Ireland is a visionary.

I'd wait to see how the draft plays out. If they are planning on following the Patriot/Packer method of building primarily through the draft and adding mid-priced role players in FA, I could certainly understand what he is doing. If we come out of the draft with these holes still there, then I'd be willing to jump onto your line of thinking...

Just tweeted out my favorite line from the interview:

"It’s going to be a competition. Matt knows, David knows, whoever else we have.....Pat Devlin knows." - Jeff Ireland, MOMENTARILY FORGETTING PAT DEVLIN EXISTS.

I am amazed at the ireland haters when everything he did, most did not want.
Flynn, Smith, peyton. So whats a guy to do?

He got Reggie Bush for peanuts.
He got Cam Wake for peanuts.
He got Charles Clay for a 6th rounder
He got Brian Hartline for a 5th
He got Odrick in a trade down for an extra player in Misi who is on pace to be better than most DE in the league who came out at same time.
He got Fasano for a 4th.
He got Matt Moore in FA cheap, which everyone on here poo poo'ed until matt moore poo poo'ed on your overexagerrating doorstep.
He got Vonte Davis.
He got Dansby, Burnett, and the guy from NO who played excellent in replacing Dansby. Our D is still top notch and will be better with full offseason with tons of youth. His draft last year was very good. His draft this year I imagine will be just as good if he follows the value like he has in the past.

I still am glad Ireland is the GM and not some randy friggin mueller!! No friggin Rick Spielman! No friggin whatever loser we had before those guys.

I am expecting we draft a QB. If we dont, then i have a big problem. I dont think we will not draft one. It wont matter what the man does, he will be mr. nasty. whateva! Just keep drafting value please!

Yeah but that's the thing brother you can't expect to hit on every draft pick and the holes we have are at least 2 drafts long.

I know certain people are now starting to bring up that he was only really in charge for only one year. But that ALSO means that you can't give him credit for Long or any other draft pick or move that was good before last year.

So if your just looking at last year, he gave us a roster that went 6-10, Bush and decent but not great draft picks.

Pouncey is alright but your telling me there was no one else that contributed more to a team we could've had that was available when we picked him? He was a safe pick, that's it.

Thomas was often injured and played decent, again nothing special. He's a decent back.

Clay was alright, some flashes of a decent TE there.

Gates is fast but didnt do jack last season, will he this year?

Kearse isn't here and Wilson seems like he will contribute but they moved him around a lot last season so what is he? Is he the new SS? Is he a CB? What are they going to do with him?

FA was meh last off season too...hence 6-10.

Lockout or not, the draft wasn't affected as much since they supposedly should've been scouting players long before there was a lockout in effect.

Do not let this guy or any fan pull the wool over your guys' eyes. Ireland is doing a terrible job and has embarrassed this franchise numerous times since he began here. Asking Dez Bryant if his mother was a prostitute, going after Harborough despite Sporano still being our head football coach, wiffing on Manning and Fisher, and numerous players coming out and saying they don't want to come here because of this guy. Miami has been the butt of a lot of jokes since he's been here, and us fans are sick of it. We haven't had a winning record in 3 years, our home attendance is at all-time lows, and he has done absolutely nothing from a player personnel standpoint this off-season to make it look like we will be improving at all. Please tell me why we should continue to support him.

Westerman is a very intriguing prospect for cheap. Some guys take a few years. This guy did some damage recently in short period when he got his chance. I would not underestimate him.

I think its well documented we need key positions still
RT, G, QB, WR, DE, FS can all be had in draft and FA continues all the way to first game of the year and beyond where the greatest value can be picked up. Reggie Bush, case and point.

A lot of this stuff your blaming Ireland for was Ross' doing. That's not Ireland's fault. As for the Dez comment he had it coming. When Dez said his father was a pimp and his mother worked for his dad, Ireland had every right to ask. If that offended him, to bad. He needs to get thicker skin and you need to get over it.

Should we ignore that? Is that really the type of guy who should be trying to bring in our players. Numerous players are coming out and saying no one wants to come here because of Ireland and how he treated Dez. What about the losing? Are you content with that? The guy has brought in a lot of starters, but outside of Bush and Wake, they are all extremely mediocre.
