GM Jeff Ireland talks about pursuit of Peyton Manning and QB's

Last year he should have drafted a QB like Dalton or Mallet. All the fans thought we needed one just like this year. His value chart said otherwise.

Kudos for the Bengals for being ahead of us.

Well, again if your only talking about what he's done post-Parcells then it's your opinion that his moves up until this point are valid and reasonable.

I however choose to disagree.

He has this season to improve because I seriously do not see Ross accepting another below .500 season from a roster he's been in charge of for 2 years as of next January (if your going with the post-Parcells thinking).

Pouncy if you recall was being contemplated to be a Center or Guard the moment we drafted him. it was only after Sparano made the decision to plug him in for certain at Center did he stay there. This was under Sparano's watch and I believe that the final decision wasn't made until Training Camp.

Look it is what it is with him. I have always been of the frame of mind that you don't go after OLine with the top 20 picks in the draft.

Late first round, OK. But top 20 you need to look for a player that can make plays.

...so again....

Was there no one else at 15 that could've been a better selection and right now, today, would be more of an asset?

Was there no other viable way of upgrading the Center position other than to use the 15th pick of the first round?

Who was doing the contemplating? Ireland? NOPE. Sparano? NOPE. The Media and some in the fan base? Yep! It was said once he was drafted and Ireland was asked about what position Pouncy would play, and he without hesitation said Center. That is a fact.

And with your thinking about not taking OLINE in the top 20, I guess PITT got it wrong going after Pouncy's brother at 18 the year before. I guess that makes you smarter than 2 FO's and Franchises.
:ponder:

You can go back and wish MIAMI took someone else in that draft. You are no different than WV and his constant bitching over Matt Ryan. The fact is, MIA took the highest rated offensive lineman in the draft at 15. A position that in the AFC East had to be addressed. You don't go against the likes of Wilfork and continue to have the oft injured lineman unavailable or inconsistent backups trying to man the spot.

I guess unlike you and many others, I don't pine after people MIA didn't get. I cheer for the one's we did. Unless your Patty White and Tina Ginn.

The only good thing of this upcoming mediocre season is that this clown will finally be fired...

Ireland pursuing Gerrard last off season? That was all I needed to hear. Talk about lowering the bar.
Gerrard was a pretty good player 5 years ago, he has chronic back problems now.
If Gerrard ultimately start for the Fins, I will wear a bag over my head in my living room during the game.:chuckle:

all he does is talk nonsense, the proof is in the pudding, he striked out on 3 qbs, thats it, your out. Not only that, dude trades away our best receiver to get another wr and than gets screwed out of it by philly. I am more than confident that the dolphins have the worse gm in football right now. Except for some reason it seems like im the only one who is seeing this.

I thought Ireland should have been fired way before Sparano was and reading the quotes just reinforces those thoughts. The whole "I believe in value" garbage only works if you already have a franchise QB, which we obviously don't have. So long as this safe-pick idiot is here, he will never go out and get a top prospect at QB. Never. There will always be some safer cornfed with more "value".

Our vision for (Garrard) is that he will compete with Matt, and whoever else might be on the roster for the starting quarterback position.

This statement by Ireland leads me to believe they have at least one Rookie QB targeted who they want to bring in and have compete to be our QB of the future.

Like I said from the beginning, I trust the judgment on Flynn and Peyton was always Peyton and I don't hold that against Ireland, bringing in Garrard and getting a QB in the draft is a decent backup plan, assuming that is his plan.

What I have a problem with is the fact that Ireland didn't fill one other high priority need this offseason, no RT no Safety, no pass rushing OLB, adding WR to the list of needs oh by the way QB is still lingering as well. It would take two or three drafts to fill those needs, let alone one.

Your goal in free agency should be to emerge a better team, I don't think there is one person who can honestly say Miami is a better team right now because of who they signed.

****! I cannot believe free agency ended that quickly. Here I was thinking there would be more time.

Please tell me you are better than that to believe that rumor by Incarcerated Bob..............please.

Ireland will probably draft Jacory Harris to be the franchise savior..

Philbin will tell Ireland who he wants and it will be Ireland's job to get him.

Let's not get that mixed up. Philbin will get his QB of the future in this draft.
