1. How do you feel about some of the un qualify GM in nfl.
2. from 2009-2016 the dolphins have suck in the 2nd and 3rd round of draft.
3. when you have a yr to find draft pick and still mess it up on draft day...

1. It's because building teams isnt as easy as laid out by FinHeaven.

2. They have, but it's not as bad as it used to be.

3. Draft isn't a science, no matter how well you scout a player will only be good if he wants it.

1. Your GM is as good as his scouting dept. Hiring scouts is a very underated part of being a GM. There is also something to be said for natural instincts of having that "eye" for talent.

2. Drafting and coaching go together. They need to be in sync. We have had **** HCs and GMs

3. $ changes people and that cannot be measured. You never know how a 21/22 will react to making millions overnight.

1. Well building a team is far more difficult then expected. Having GMs that are completely lost in the woods only complicates the problem. Look at Cleveland, Buf, SF. Organizations like that have weak or no power structure which is where we were for a long time. If the top of your organization isn't run smoothly the whole infrastructure collapses.

2. Other then some rare hits, the middle rounds have been very bad which kept the team from gaining any ground in the conference. This is part scouting and part poor management. Jeff Ireland set this team back years because he got to cute in the middle rounds. Look at the players we passes up for guys such as Jamar taylor and Dallas Thomas. We will see how this new regime trends in a few years.

3. Scouting isn't as simple as the media makes it. You are scouting a prospects entire life and up to 4 years of games ape. Sometimes you miss red flags and sometimes you thought you correct them. Coaching has been a real problem in maximizing the talent. Obviously Philbin & Sparano were not cutting it.

To be honest, I've always wondered about Miami's scouting department. The ineptness of draft over nearly 20 years makes me wonder how scouts are evaluated for the team and what is the process for grading scouts? Has there been a lot of changes?

How do successful teams evaluate their scouts. Just questions I have.

No team has ever completely mastered the draft. Sure some teams hit on a late round diamond in the rough once in a while but they also bomb in the early rounds. I don't think there is a sure-fire draft strategy that will work every year. There are way too many moving parts for any front office to ace it year after year.

Having said that, it does seem like the Phins have tried, more often than not, to try to prove that they are smarter than everyone else and they know something that no one else has figured out. And this has left the team with egg on its face way more often than us fans would like. With very visible first round failures like Dion Jordan and Ted Ginn, just to name a couple of obvious ones from the past several years, fans are less willing to give the team the benefit of the doubt. Sure we can sit here and give our opinions about who we think they should draft but there are people much more football-smart than us that do this as their year-round job that have a better eye for talent and can better predict how it will translate to the NFL. I may be a little more of an optimist than many around this board but I think that the team is finally starting to dispose of the dead weight in the front office and they are putting more trust in the coach to recommend players that will fit the offensive or defensive scheme.

I believe a lot of the failures of the past can be blamed on the FO and the Coach not working towards the same goal. Ireland was a deceptive little creepy guy who was sneaky and mostly everything he did was self serving. Ireland is a little bit like Frank Burns in Mash, sniveling little knife in the back guy. As low of opinion I have of Ireland, my dislike for Joe Philbin far exceeds my distain for "Little Jeffrey." Philbin was a weak-kneed incompetent, weasel of a man who should be on a fast track to be a greeter at K-Mart, except he lacks the charisma necessary to really ever cut it. These 2 guys were the 2 most important people to OUR MIAMI DOLPHINS for a good long spell. Can there be any chance of success when these 2 specimens are running the show??? Why were they there??? Steve Ross hired these 2 clowns but he is forgiven for waking up and bringing in Gase. That's the whole ball game, we now have a Coach that has brains and is excellent in every way. This draft will be a great one imo and it will be Gase, behind the scenes calling the shots. #22 Willis #54 Feeney, that's my prediction and I'd be very happy with it.
