OK, I know this could be considered nitpicking but really it's not.

I'm sitting here going through all the calculations and i just don't see why in the hell we would go for 2 when the score is 30-19 us??

If we kick the guaranteed 1, we go up by 12 POINTS, meaning they would need 2 FULL TD's to retake the lead.

If we go for the 2 and make it, we're up by 13 points... meaning they would still need the same 2 TD's to take the lead...

However if we go for 2 and miss it (like we did), We're only up by 11, all of a sudden they only need 1 TD, 2pt conversion, and 1 FG to tie it....

Can any math guru out there explain this to me??? I am not understanding this call at all....

I agree, I had NO IDEA why we went for two there and it could have hurt us big time. Mistake by Sparano on that call.

Someone (probably Sparano) ****ed up the math on that one. The media will ask him about it tomorrow - we'll see what he says.

Yeah, but i can't believe people make this dumb mistakes, they are supposed to be professionals....

we ran the exact play the jets did for their 2 point conversion and the jets used a timeout beforehand.... so i guess it could be worse

Yah I don't get it at all either, I was sitting at home watching it on TV and knew it was a horrible call, how can NFL coaches/coordinators not realize this??? No idea what happened there, and it could have cost us the game, or at least forced overtime.

It's not nitpicking at all. It was incredibly stupid, and if it weren't for a lucky penalty by the Jets on their two point conversion, they would'be kicked a field goal at the end of the game, sending it into overtime, and possibly costing us the game.

He may have been thinking this:

12 points - Jets could score a TD and 2 FG to go ahead by one

13 points - Jets could score a TD and 2 FG and only tie

Way I see it now is that we ended up winning by 5, meaning if the Jets end up scoring on their last drive they go up by at least 1 point with a TD. If however we convert the two point coversion, we lead by 7, meaning they need a TD and the point after to only tie.

I do dobut though thats what Sparano was looking at and I'd say he just got his maths wrong. Taking the Extra Point made much more sense.

U have to remember the entire game. If we do NOT go for 2, then the lead is 12, and the Jet score a TD and kick the extra point . . . and make it a 5 point game . . . instead we go for 2 and miss, and then the Jets score and they go for 2 and miss . . . so it was a wash in the end . . . but if that penalty on the 2 point conversion for the Jets wasn't flagged . . . then we may be talking about a Dolphins loss right now because the Jets cut it to 3 and kick the FG to tie . . . . and then we lose in OT and of course we find a way to blame Ginn because he had 0 catches.

I'm curious to see if he followed the "card" for these calculations. If he did, the author should be fired. The decision seemed to lack common sense. I'd like to hear his response on it. If he feels he made a mistake, he'll admit it.

He holds himself accountable. Unlike certain behemoth turds north of the Mason Dixon line.

Very Dumb . Every coach is supposed to have a sheet where it tells you exactly what situations you go for 2 and when you don't. It doesn't factor in time left in the game or anything but it does the math for you. Realistically with 8 mins left the Jets never had time to score a td and 2 fields goals (ie three drives) and to suggest we could stop them 2 times out of three when we hadn't stopped them all second half was fanciful to say the least. Watch the highlights on NFL.com and the Jets radio announcers say "The dolphins are going for 2 and to be honest i have no idea why, this makes no sense."

Lucky to get away with it.

Aside from the fact we won anyways, if we had converted on that 2pt conversion everyone woulda been breathing a little easier on that last Jets push with the score being 32-25 instead of 30-25..

Ide rather go to OT than outright lose in the final minute..

going for two on that play was as stupid as calling that time out at the end of the half last week against the Saints.Sparano really drives me nuts sometimes with his bonehead calls

there is no logical explanation for this. the difference between 11 and 12 is HUGE. the difference between 12 and 13 is NOTHING. im gonna mail sparano a calculator

not only was it wrong call but its not a good thing for our defenses confidence. basically told the defense we dont have faith in you to hold a 12 pt lead.
