Here's a question, probably mainly for locals:

My nephew and I are flying down for training camp and the scrimmage the first week of August and I was just wondering if someone could help me out with some logistics.

We're coming down from Illinois and I don't plan on renting a car, as our hotel will be about a mile from the training facility in Davie. However, we'd like to take a tour of the stadium and need to go to FIU for the scrimmage. What's the best way to get around down there if you don't have a car?

Also, any recommendations on restaurants near the training facility in Davie would be awesome.

Thanks, and go Fins!

I think you might be better off renting a car.

The training facility (as you stated) is in Davie on the Nova Campus. However, FIU and the stadium are both well south of the that in Miami.

As for transportation you have the option of renting a cab, Uber (cheaper then a cab), and possible the Bus System (but, I'm not familiar with it). Between cab fees and such I think you would be better off renting a car. There is a lot to see in SFLA which includes:

- Downtown Fort Lauderdale / Riverfront / Las Olas
- Hard Rock Casino in Hollywood
- Miami: Brickell Area (Merry Brickell Village), Midtown, Lincoln Road/South Beach (SOBE)
- Various Malls in Broward and Miami
- Beaches: Fort Lauderdale, Hollywood, South Beach
- If you are into golf there are tons of places to play

I just feel you will be a bit limited w/o a car. However, do keep in mind many places charge a parking fee so factor that in. Hope that helps.

No real way to get around without a car public-transportation-wise. Uber or cab would be your best bet. Laspadas makes a mean Italian sub. Lots of good restaurants around the training facility.

Speaking of Traing Camp, the NFL Network is doing Hard Knocks Training Camp with the Miami Dolphins right now. Looks a few years old, Tannehill's rookie year.... we still had Reggie Bush, and Devlin at QB. Joe Philbin just told some Guard named Steinbach that he is quesy about putting him in against Carolina. He sure gets quesy a lot. :rolleyes2:

As someone that has never driven in South Florida before, can anyone tell me if the roads are easy to navigate, or if they're difficult, etc.

The roads are all fairly easy to navigate, it's the other idiots on the road that you have to worry about. In all honesty, the area is extremely tourist friendly, you shouldn't have any problem.

broward county is mostly laid out as a perfect grid. avenues run north and south, streets run east and west.

broward blvd. is zero street and the north/south dividing line, andrews avenue is zero avenue and the east/west dividing line.

as long as you always know where the atlantic is, you're good!

Food wise you have to go to one of the La Carettas locations for a cuban. Best Burgers in the area are at Burgers N Beer theres a few of them.

Enjoy. It'll be fun AND hot!

I was born on Miami Beach and when the guys tell you to rent a car there giving you good advise. You'll have a much better time. It's easy to get around but know where you're going and how to get there before you set out each day. There are some rough areas and a wrong turn or two can put you there. This isn't too much of a worry in daytime but know where you're going at night. Rent a car with a Navi and you'll be just fine. If you're drinking get a cab home because they're tough on drunk driving. Party on South Beach, shop in Bal Harbor, great food is available and I'm sure you'll have a blast. Bring shorts, t-shirts and bathing suits! Final word: if your catching rays at the ocean or the pool wear major sun block and be very careful how long you're in the sun. I've seen tons of Florida vacations ruined the first day by getting a painful sunburn. Avoid the pitfalls I mentioned and you'll be great. Have fun!!!
