The team also was impressed with Thursday's workout of former NFL starter Quincy Carter, who could wind up on the roster if he can get into better shape.Carter has been advised by the team not to discuss his workout -- and instead focus on conditioning.

Beck said Friday he has grown frustrated by his inability to throw as efficiently and successfully as he did during the offseason, when he was statistically better than both other quarterbacks.

''It's tough because there's certain situations in practice when you only get limited reps,'' Beck said. ``You feel like you want to make the best of that rep, but sometimes the best of that rep is just checking it down.''

''As a player, you want to impress [the coaches],'' Beck said. 'You want to show them you're the guy. The hardest part about that is, you do get a little antsy. You're like, `Man, I've already had to take a couple check downs. I want to take a chance down field.' But I can't have that mentality"

Meanwhile, Henne's early prognosis is looking solid. The staff is growing more confident that he will develop into a solid quarterback, and it's starting to show.

Interesting to see that Sparano, Ireland and Parcells all attended the Carter workout.

No thanks on Quincy but they seem to be exploring their options.

Is it just me or is anyone else a little bothered by John Beck's quotes? :err:

i dont know that I a bothered but they seem to be telling. I am starting to reallly think he isnt the guy. A preseason game or two to come but he may not even be here when things start for real.

Maybe it's you, I think he sounds like someone who cares about his job and doesn't like failure. Sounds like the right frame of mind.

Yeah his quotes definitely sound about right. A lot better than some other recent gaffes he's had.

Overall that was a very nice, even-handed article. I have noticed that Darlington has been very even-keeled in this whole thing.

I don't have a problem with his quotes. He shouldn't be happy. You can almost feel how disappointed he is on his own play. At least he isn't sugar coating it. Hope he has a very good showing today in the scrimmage...

my opinion his qoutes show a learning process in action with a young man. he wants to be the best and impress. well in order to do that you have to operate within the system. sometimes that means checking down or throwing the ball away. sounds like he understands that or at least is grasping the concept, doesn't like it but is getting it. hey its the first week of camp over the next 2 weeks, starting with todays "scrimmage" the picture at qb should become more clear. i don't care if beck is the starter or henne or even mcCown ( what if he has 3-4 dam good seasons with us and henne sits and learns.) i just want a player under center

I agree you with you there. He just sounds extremely competitive. And that's the mindset we need at QB. Now if he can turn that mentality into performance, then we'll be okay.

I don't know if they're exploring their options or if they're trying to make the QB's on the roster realize that it's time to produce or you may be shown the door. I don't Carter could ever unseat one of those 3, but who knows.

And I'm not bothered at all by his comments. Sounds as honest as could be, and I'm happy that he's not tyring to place blame. Not getting enough time in the pocket, WR's aren't getting open, etc.

He know's he has it in him, but is frustrated that he can't show it more consistenly.

Very intetesting the all attended the workout... says to me they were taking a serious look at Carter.. unfortunately.

I don't know what it is about Beck.. everytime I hear him talk it doesn't instill a confidence. sadly.
