Good article on the day 2 draft. | FinHeaven - Miami Dolphins Forums

Good article on the day 2 draft.

Our scouts and coaches are definitely good at finding gems. But, more importantly they stick to a plan. Alot of fans don't take into account players' existing contracts and such. For example, David Martin will be a free agent next year and if Haynos or Nadolne (sp?) show upside....then I definitely don't see Martin sticking around.

We have many players that will be free agents next year and we'll probably only retain 1/2 of them.

As is Fasano. I think Martin will be gone, and that's when Nalbone will come in and surprise alot of people. From a small school, so not too many people have heard about him. But from what I understand, he is a real good all around TE. Whether it's in the passing game, or blocking.

Well, let's see.
Find a receiver among the likes of Oklahoma's Juaquin Iglesias, North Carolina's Brooks Foster, Abilene Christian's Johnny Knox and Ohio State's Brian Hartline.

We accomplished the objective there. 1-0

Find an outside linebacker who can rush the passer, with California's Zack Follett, Georgia Tech's Michael Johnson, Richmond's Lawrence Sidbury and Western Illinois' Jason Williams among the intriguing options.

Did not get the job done there. 1-1

Find competition for likely starting guard Donald Thomas (and veteran Joe Berger) and depth at tackle. The Dolphins spent a lot of time with tackles Gus Parrish (Kent State) and Dane Randolph (Maryland) and guard Louis Vasquez (Texas Tech), while also conveying an interest in South Carolina guard Jamon Meredith, Nebraska's Matt Slauson and Oregon's Mark Lewis, plus Maryland center Edwin Williams.

Nope. 1-2

Add more defensive line depth, especially tackle, where they entered Saturday seeking an eventual successor to Jason Ferguson. Clemson's Dorell Scott and LSU's Ricky Jean Francois were the most prominent tackles summoned for visits. USC defensive end Kyle Moore intrigues Miami.

Nope. 1-3

Add depth at fullback (incumbent Lou Polite is the favorite), running back (Louisville's Brock Bolen and Alabama's Glen Coffee drew late interest) and safety (among those on Miami's radar: North Carolina's Trimane Goddard, Vanderbilt's Reshard Langford and Cincinnati's Brandon Underwood).

Nope. 1-4

Add a developmental tight end. With Anthony Fasano and David Martin free agents after 2009, Miami spent a lot of time on tight ends, auditioning South Carolina's Jared Cook, UF's Cornelius Ingram, Rice's James Casey and Maryland's Dan Gronkowski.

They added one, but none of the ones listed and they were available. 1-5

1 for 5. Pretty much sums up the way the draft went.

Well, let's see.

We found two receivers, even got one of the guys Barry named, Brian Hartline.

We did not get an OLB.

We got an interior OL, even got one of the ones that Barry named Mark Lewis of Oregon. He's a UDFA we got.

We also got depth at tackle in Andrew Gardner, an excellent pick.

We did not get a DL, but I don't think they were even looking for one unless a guy fell in their lap.

We did not get depth at FB. Arguable at whether you even need "depth" at FB. You just need one, really.

We got depth at safety like Barry wanted.

We got a developmental TE like Barry wanted.

So you went into this thing thinking we would come out with guys listed in an article?? what the friggin hell.

All I know is our Db's are set for years to come. We have JT prob coming back and even if he doesnt, Wake and Roth will do just fine! Parcells is building one block at a time.

That article was BEFORE the selections. It was not a description of the "quality" that we picked on Day 2. I'm hoping they work out. With that said, Picks 3-5 were low/no value. We should have picked up DL/LB instead.

Actually the Dolphins signed Wake before the draft, drafted J.D. Folsom OLB....and signed Mark Lewis as a free agent G/C.

OG Mark Lewis (Oregon)
DE Ryan Baker (Purdue)
LB Orion Martin (Virginia Tech)
WR Chris Williams (New Mexico State)

I agreed with him on that one

We did not get an OLB.
Your not serious. Folsom is not going to be on the roster opening day. He is no more than camp fodder. No value in this pick as he could have been picked up as an UDFA.

We got an interior OL, even got one of the ones that Barry named Mark Lewis of Oregon. He's a UDFA we got.
They are are talking about the draft and there were real possibilties with more talent and the real chance at competing for a job.

We also got depth at tackle in Andrew Gardner, an excellent pick.
May turn out to be a backup and that is what we need. But he has terrible feet and can't pick up the speed guys off the edge. As previously stated there were better guys available.

We did not get a DL, but I don't think they were even looking for one unless a guy fell in their lap.

Where in the article does he say we need S depth.

We got a developmental TE like Barry wanted.
I have no comment on that, because up until the draft I did not know he even existed. I hope he turns out. He has the size to give them a legitmate blocker on the OL.
