Now I've only studied a total of 10 seasons so far, but in all 10 the receiver caught at least 60 percent of his passes at chest-level, which is really where they should want the ball most of the time. That's a natural catching position. Three of the 10 seasons had 70 percent at chest-level and Wallace had all three of those years. I broke down the chest targets into high and low. Chest-high is for plays where the ball still arrives at the receiver's chest-level, but he's left the ground in order to make that happen. Chest-low is usually the result of a player crouching down or making the catch on his knees, but still at his chest. These aren't common as I've only marked 25 plays as chest-high or chest-low and Wallace has 18 of them. As the next table shows, Wallace has consistently been making most of his catches at chest-level.

Three seasons, three offensive coordinators, (mostly) two quarterbacks, but those are some strikingly consistent rates for Wallace.

Its a good read breaking down Wallaces catches and Hartline and Gibson as well...not sure if its been posted already but figured id post it up.

Didn't even need that chart to know that. He's never been a guy to extend to get a ball.

Because he sucks as a receiver and can only catch with his body.

I was a linebacker when I played, but can remember the WR coach yelling at guys for catching with their body. It's simple fundamentals. The ball bounces off your chest like it did last night on that screen pass.

18 million for this guy....

my grandpa taught me to catch with my hands when i was like 6 years old.

That's a natural catching position.

And this picture tells me everything I need to know about Mike Wallace's "natural" ability to catch a football.

*Jarvis Landry is the anti-Wallace.

Mike Wallace has ALWAYS been a body catcher who cradles the ball with his chest. This was well known BEFORE we signed him.

"..Wallace is a dependable receiver, but most evaluators would describe him as a "body catcher." He prefers to trap and cradle the ball against his chest rather than snatching the ball cleanly out of the air.."

Thanks again, Jeff.

this just proves that wallace needs a near perfect ball to his bread basket in order for him to catch it.

If I remember correctly. When we played Buff. The last drive of the game for us. M.Wallace had a chance to win the game for us and straight dropped it.

IDK but im pretty sure it was Tannehills fault, somehow...?

I know in the Panthers game he dropped one on the last play of the game that would have won it for us.

Thanks again, Jeff.

actually, you should say thanks Dawn. She writes the checks and makes the deals. I dare you to challenge me on that fact. It was documented by media that Jeff was the good cop after dawn was bad cop. In other words, Dawn would do take it or leave it deals or put the language in there that makes it to our advantage later on. Jeff did none of this. The GM does not enter Dawns room at contract time.
