Good article: Will Manning ever play again?

How do you know he can still play at a high level? Just becuase he was prior to his injury doesn't mean he still can. I think some of you really underestimate the severity of his injury

How do you know he cant?

Obviously if he cant play, then he cant play. But if the doctors tell him he can, then I say we should go for it. And also draft a QB so Peyton can teach him.

All im saying is its not like Peyton is washed up, people are talkin like even before Peytons injury he was already done with. 2010 was one of Peytons best seasons (career high in yards). His reputation alone should be enough reason to sign him.

Spoken like someone who has never experienced this type injury. The Doctor told me I could play golf again after I had two ruptured discs and fusion at C5-6 and C6-7. And he was right, I could play. What he didn't say was that my drives would be 100 yards shorter and I would need two clubs more on other shots. Weakness creeps in around the turn and I play through it, quite poorly I might add. Formerly a 6-7 handicap, now I'm lucky if I break 90.

Peyton is damaged goods.

Do you still get massive headaches from the tension in the neck? Numbness in the arm and fingers? pain and numbness in the neck and arm from coughing and sneezing? Fatigue from lack of sleep? to name a few!!! I hear ya man ... I'm a triple fusion (C4, C5, C6) and a laminectomy of the nerve root!!!

Didn't read through all the replys in this thread but Cowherd (Thundering Herd podcast) played a sound snippet of the doctor that gave Peyton his surgery and said that 90% of patients with this injury fully recover and he expects Peyton, with his drive and competitive nature, to definitely be back in the mix for 2012.

I'm of the mind there's no way he retires unless something freaky happens with his neck, shouldn't though.

I feel ya brother. Not much trouble with the headaches but pain, burning and numbness are a problem along with fatigue. A nap every day sure helps. I hope you eventually get some relief. It's no fun.

This is old news to some of you, but that doctor who said 90% of patients fully recover was lying through his ****ing teeth. Just because a doctor says something does not mean it is true. I know some folks tend to believe that because a prominent doctor said something that it must be true, but I have to say that I deal with surgeons on a daily basis in my line of work and trust me, they are no different from anyone else. Any two guys you talk to can tell you wildly different things about the exact same procedure. Sometimes they are lying, but usually they are just uninformed or even misinformed.

I saw on CNN International just yesterday some bigshot surgeon from California discussing a big international medical products scandal, and the guy was stating outright falsehoods. I could not believe the **** this guy was saying, and millions of people who watched that news report probably accepted it all at face value.

It's possible that Manning makes a miracle recovery but don't believe for a second that 90% of patients make a "complete" recovery from this procedure. 90% of ****ing hernia repair patients don't even make a complete recovery, and that's a pretty simple procedure in comparison.

Two words: Daunte Culpepper.

No offense dude but youre no superior athlete like Peyton is. All im saying is we should give him a chance, if hes able to play, its Peyton. That being said though, that doesnt mean we stop looking for a franshise QB, we can still draft a guy like Tannehill to learn from Manning, the best.

Everyone was saying the same thing after Drew Brees got hurt before the Chargers let him go, I know its not the same inury but it was just as serious.

NO OFFENSE DUDE, but you don't know what your talking about!!! Spinal Fusion Surgery is much worse than the Shoulder Injury that Brees had!!! Have you ever thought to research the injuries to make an assumption like you have!!! I'm curious as to how you came to your conclusion about Manning? It don't make a difference once a section of your spine gets immobilized by the plate that get's screwed into it!!!
