GOOD LORD !!!! PTSD ?! Seriously.......WTF !?

Now the only thing that would justify all this mess would be that he got raped, I mean what the hell could they have done to him... Seriously???

This is an insult to any vet or someone that went through a violent life or death situation.

I am going to wait to see how this plays out. Anyone that thinks that it isn't possible to get PTSD by going to work every day in a hostile work environment is flat out wrong. Let ALL the facts come out and then call Martin a liar if you believe he is.

Yeah ? maybe he has it , just about every work place has some kind of hostile , or stressing part in there work that they have got to either work through it , or go sit at home and not get a pay check , thats why you get paid, nothing is easy in life ,every job i have had has been stressful or hostile , but if i wanted a paycheck i had to work for it , Nothing was handed to me , nobody likes to work , but its a way of life and Martin is trying to find an easy way out , i wished i could sue everytime somebody has called me a name , i mean come on , we are grown men here and we cant have every little thing detailed and put on a silver platter, look at our Vets That Serve Our Country, they go to war and come home with this same thing , who are they going to sue and , what Martin went through was Nothing , just consider every step you take may be your last one , in the Marines your called everything under the sun , your mother gets put in the subject your sister , your brother , the staff sargent calles you everything says your nothing ,that your a peice of **** exc. So who dose our Vets get to sue over that ?? they come home with the same thing , that Martin is claiming to have , but they dont get to sue nobody , Martin needs to grow the F up because he dosent know what bulling is , he needs to be in the Marines then he will know what its like ....

Unless anyone here is a licensed psychologist, specializing in mental health issues, I really don't think they should pretend to be able to deduce the veracity of Martin's claims. As someone who suffers from mental health issues (not ptsd), all I can say it was a surprising claim to hear, but that alot of time mental health issues (especially if one has a pre existing mental health condition) can be triggered by things which wouldn't effect most people; that is a part of what mental illness is. Until more information comes out, no one here can really shed much light on what is going on.

I understand what your'e saying here. PTSD is triggered by all sorts of incidents, sometimes minor issues. However, what is he - 24 years old? He plays HS football, College ball, goes through all sorts of tests, drills, Q & A by college scouts, pro scouts, his folks are loaded and NOTHING, not a single red flag is raised. Why did NO ONE see anything? No doubt his college coaches pushed him hard, his folks prolly pushed him hard to pass his exams at college. No doubt he got yelled at, abused, screamed at, was made to do 'lackey boy tasks as the new kid on every team he started with, but all of a sudden he is under the care of a medical practitioner for PTSD. Has the past 18 months been so stressful that he snapped? if it was getting to him, why did he not seek treatment earlier? If he did then he would be obliged to inform the coaching staff of a treatment program.

Only he really knows whats going on in his head. Philbin, Ross, Ireland, Incognito, his parents and anyone else couldnt know that he was about to lose his **** and walk out. I can see this ending badly for all concerned. Miami will be fined, incognito sacked but will play again and Martin may well be gone from the league.

Buff - G'day mate. You ask some really good questions. If the comments from Incognito's Dad, that it was known that JMart was suicidal, then maybe he was already getting treatment from a clinical professional and on anti-depressants. The interesting thing is what did the coaches know? Anti-depressants will work but I understand that getting the right one and the dosage can be tricky. Also, Jonathan may not have taken his medication and that made him more likely to flip out over the silly stunt in the cafeteria. If the GM and coaches knew of the problem and still proceeded with the code red with our trainee sociopath who probably delighted in giving some tough love, then the consequence are very serious.
What we will see from this case is a lot more NFL team resources devoted to assessing mental health of players. Some will say that it sounds stupid but the money is so great that I can see teams employing psychologists to monitor these things and evaluate risks.
I notice that you are in Sydney. I am an Aussie living in South Florida - I moved here from Sydney 15 years ago (I still follow the Sharkies). Sounds like Sydney property prices are going crazy - hope that you are in the game.

Poor Jon! Can't you guys see he's suffering from this debilitating PTSD?!?! I mean those are the classic symptoms!

Some players can't make the successful transition from college to the NFL. Having enjoyed success at Stanford, it is interesting that he is happy back with his college buds. Also interesting that he flew from LA to New York for the Friday meeting back to LA for the game. I wonder where he meets Stephen Ross (a NYC resident) on Monday?

And my point stands - your whole position (that Martin is a money-grub who does not have PTSD) is based on conjecture regarding some "facts" that have nothing to do with what Martin went through or what his actual psychological state is.

I'm not sure why the default assumption would be pathology and injury, rather than a benign state. It should be up to Martin to prove anything otherwise. Allegations are not proof,.. and proof isn't even required, because most legal complaints are settled out of court and there is no jury, no cross-examination, no light of day.

Is it our job to regurgitate every claim by Martin's lawyers and take each one as if it were gospel? I think that given the context, common sense tells us to take it with a grain of salt. And frankly....things like depression and pstd, and so forth, are as common as dirt, and can be sprinkled on a variety of legal cases, to bolster them. What's next, he's going to claim he became impotent due to the stress?

Frankly, my position is, the Miami Dolphins should have prevented this, and fired Incognito after the golf club incident, and not even drafted Jonathan Martin, or having failed that, after a disappointing year, draft a lineman to replace him and retain Jake Long. But...none of that happened because we have incompetent people running the organization. Having said that, I place a lot of responsibility on the shoulders of Jonathan Martin too, because he literally walked out....there's no paper trail that we can see yet which indicates he brought a problem to managment, and he called his lawyers and started building a case against the organization.

This is the man that has a LOT to prove, and has a LONG way to go, before I can determine what weight, if any, his claims have:

I'm no medecal professional but I deal with people who have PTSD. And from my experience people with PTSD should try and avoid situtations that might trigger adverse reactions. That's why DoD prohibits troops with a confimed PTSD DX from combat ops.

Any mental heath professional should have told him to aviod ALL football; PERIOD.

Spiketex. Missed the property lull mate. And I am sorry your a sharks fan.....what is it with water mascots? Red v here mate. No doubt you hate them.....

There is a lot to come out of this story. And it won't be good.

PTSD? That **** happens when someone standing next to you gets his head blown off and you see it first hand. Or when your family burns in a fire and you survive after watching them burn. It doesn't happen because some fat guy calls you a N-bomb and a rookie. JMart is a sad sac. He needs to grow a pair and live his life. Sad thing is he probably can't handle any other lifestyle either. Normal jobs may not have all the violence of football but can be even harder I think. What a ****ing *****.

Sorry Brad, I didn't recognize you from a few years ago.. Hope that you are well and in good spirits.
I seem to make it a habit of water mascots - you should follow suit.
I'm waiting for Jonathan Martin to be like Ricky Williams and head Downunder to live in a tent at Byron Bay and sort himself out.

My gripe with all of this is that our team is still paying this guy. Not only are they paying him, but he's also taking up a valuable roster spot. Since he has been diagnosed with a condition I believe the team should cut him with an injury settlement and be done with it. He was under performing at his position for where he was drafted so trading him is out of the question just based on that. No team will trade for a guy with "PTSD", let alone is borderline starter material. I believe the same should go for Richie. After many weeks of reading and investigating what information is out there, I don't believe Richie did anything enough to illicit this kind of response from another human being. However, I think the dolphins should also cut Richie. Remove two cancerous players from our locker room and perhaps we will be performing slightly better. I understand Mr. Ross wants to come off as a responsible business owner and he needs to make sure he covers his tail, however; the number one problem is his product. It's clear the fans think so too with the turn out at home games lately. That "committee" he put together should be used to help better this team.

There is no confirmed DX. This is just a rumor but one IMHO was leaked by his camp.
