In discussing the "need" for Cameron Wake to play I looked over our defense and offense.

I've thought that Taylor and Porter have played semi well myself. JT is in a new position for him and I've seen him knock back a few lineman which amazed me.

While it is true that they "only" have one sack each, the rest of our defense only has one (Dolphins.com as the other by Ferguson, NFL.com has it by Merling). We really need a push up the middle and OMG do we need a decent blitz from a ILB in at least one game this year.

I would put another part of this on the two teams/QBs/OLs we have played so far. Matt Ryan has only been sacked by us while Peyton Manning has only one sack by the Jags.

Most of our stats are very good.

We lead in rushing yards and average yards per rush 335/4.7 to only 129/3.4
First downs, 43 to 33.
Our Time of Possession margin is large, 37.7 to 22.58.
Our 3rd down conversions is greater, 19/32 vs 9/22.
Pennington is throwing at his normally awesome 69.4%
We are doing much better in punt and kick returns.

Our corners are doing a very good job against the pass having played against two good QB's.

But we have two glaring weaknesses:

A very low yards per pass attempt of only 5.7 vs 9.0.
And a turnover ratio of -5.

Our ILBs and safeties are not covering anyone giving up too many big plays. And we are dropping the ball and getting way too many interceptions.

If our defense tightens up and Pennington starts to use his supposed stronger arm more we could be close to beating the pud out of someone.

one of the penningtologists 10 commandments of CPF.

Good post, there is room for optimism if we can stop turning the ball over and start tackling.

I want to add another glaring problen though. Our non-wildcat offense (our base offense) sucks right now.

The only stat that matters is 0-2!

I wouldnt say it sucks, I would just say two key basics is turning the ball over and making big plays.

I think we missed making big plays last week and week before turned the ball over, which is what this good post was about.

I think overall this is a character building year where we play the best week in and week out. The good side to that is so is everyone else ex: tennessee, NE; so injuries start to catch up with teams. That is our overall strength should we stop the turnovers and make big plays.

Its time for Fasano and Cobbs to get involved.

I think they need to be more agresive on some deep throws. Be nice to see it aired out even a little.

It is time for Pennington to grow a pair and for our defense to cover someone.

Chad's yards per pass attempt has always been good enough with rarely throwing long. Last year it was 7.7, this year it is 5.7.

A whole two yards less per pass attempt!

We need somebody who can cover a TE. I realized we've played two of the best in the league so far, and have another great coming up, but this is inexcusable.

True True. I remember last year after game 2; we couldnt cover a lofted crappy Brett Farve throw and still get to the guy in time.

Then things changed.

Here's hope and change! (our gov't can screw!)

I get the feeling like Penny is being cautious after that Atlanta game.

We will air it out soon. I have no doubt about that. I think Penny just wants to get the first things first.

Penny did get it to Fasano and Ginn in end zone. Just didnt get it. Its not like he did not take any shots. He did. Just fell short. Thats how it goes sometimes.
