Marcus Stroud has been hurt and if he is still out when we play them that will help us. He is currently listed as probable though for Buffalo with an ankle.
Also, their starting MLB is out for the season, Mike Peterson. Donavin Darius is also out for the season. I think John Henderson also has some type of injury though has been able to keep playing with it. He is also listed as probable for Buffalo with a hamstring. Their starting right corner, Brian Williams, is questionable for Buffalo with a hamstring. He wasn't able to fully practice on Wednesday in 11 on 11s. Also backup RCB Terry Cousin is listed as doubtful for Buffalo with a groin injury and also wasn't able to complete the practice.
On the offensive side, WR Ernest Wilford is questionable with an ankle and wasn't able to fully practice on Wednesday.
It will be interesting to see if any of their walking wounded is in better shape by our game with them.
Which ever team is the healthiest could go a long ways into deciding the outcome of our game with the Jags.
Henderson and Stroud both played against the Giants and dominated.
They are missing Mike Peterson, but Daryl Smith has filled in and allowed them to not miss a beat there.
And when Donovan Darius left, Gerald Sensabaugh came in and I'll tell you right now...he might be the most athletic safety in the NFL bar none. You can bet the guy will be able to run in on run support and seal the edges along with another highly athletic guy, Deon Grant.
The Jags D is very good...lots of depth, lots of talent, and it all starts up front with the dominant DTs.
But they play exponentially better at home with the home crowd cheering them on. We can definitely get them in a funk with us playing in Miami. Hopefully Ronnie will be ok...not much hope that he plays at this point but you never know.
In the meantime I hope when everyone reviews the tape they find Toniu Fonoti's performance too compelling to justify him on the bench, and that could give us a big boost against Jax's big and dominant DT tandem.
The issue for us IMO is going to be defense. You have to be on top of your game to stop this Jax offense because they have size and they have speed everywhere. They can block and open up holes for Fred Taylor, who has breakaway homerun speed. Maurice Drew has breakaway speed and some surprising power. We saw in preseason how a little slip screen to Drew can turn into a 50+ yard touchdown. And, it is tough to defend David Garrard because he's big and can get away from tackles, and he can get out of the box and make plays with his feet. We're going to have to come up with a wild game plan on them and then play with tons of discipline.
