Per-Game Averages
Player Att. Comp. Yds. TD Int 20+ Fumbles Poor Throws
Harrington 37.3 21.6 219.4 1.21 .52 .10 .4 6.3
Culpepper 33.5 20.25 232.25 0.50 .752 .750 .75 6

So, what do we learn here? While Daunte did throw fewer touchdowns per game and fumble slightly more per game, he still outplayed Joey for the starting job. He's far more explosive, as shown by the number of pass plays for over 20 yards as well as his higher yardage total despite fewer attempts. He also has fewer bad throws per game, albeit not by much.

They both blow...

The lack of long passes is directly because of the horrible O-line play. I'm sure if they looked at Joey's YPA with the Lions it would probably be higher...

I will say this, I was never sold on Culpepper but Harrington has done a pretty good selling job.

Last week when they showed Pep getting owned by the Bills during the game, it really stood out how slow he looked rolling out and moving in the pocket. He also never stepped into his throws. If he could play better than Harrington with half a leg, I have confidence he'll be our guy next year.

I was getting to the point were i was sold on Joey. Right up until sunday when he got the 0.0 rating. Don't care who you are, you gotta try pretty dang hard to get a 0.0 rating.

I thought he must be hurt and Saban was playing him anyways, like a bluff but that wasn't it. He just couldn't handle the pressure, he folded like pinochio...:fire:

The sacks hurt Culpepper

The lack or being ablle to read a d hurt him! Not to mention that noodle arm on the out passes. Wheres the strong arm that alot of people raved about? I think as of now, Harrington is the best we got.

I agree

Some people still fail to realize just how terrible the offensive line was before Shelton was moved from tackle to guard and McIntosh was moved to that tackle spot. I would say the line was at least as much to blame for the sacks as Culpepper. So I don't see how we can make a good judgment on him when he was not only hurt, but playing behind a terrible line.

Have you been watching the games? Joey is doing the same things he did in Detroit. He throws more INTs than TDs. And he can't throw the ball over 10 yards downfield with any kind of accuracy and consistency.

I too lost faith in Joey after the Buffalo debacle. We need to go offensive line in rounds 1 and 2 like the Jets did... seemed to work out well for them. If we can protect CPep, this offense will be solid. With Ronnie and then Ricky back (hopefully), an upgraded O line, I think the final piece is to upgrade #1 WR, and put Chambers in the slot all the time.

I agree about the offensive line and I am happy to see that a lot of others are thinking that way. People need to realize that it all starts up front. If the line doesn't do their job effectively, it will be very difficult for the rest of the offense to perform well. We have a mediocre to average offensive line right now. And we are 28th in the league in points scored. The foundation of a good offense is its offensive line and if we want to be even an average offense, it must improve.

The line was worse yes, however Daunte was far worse than his stats led on. If you actually watched the games he was terrible...but his 2 yrd passes and refusal to throw the ball away kept his stats respectable.

I remember thinking after some of the games that on paper the ESPN guys (or anyone who did not watch the game) probably thought he was playing well.

Just wanted to point out that stats don't tell the whole story, especially in this case. And whoever said that the "stats clearly prove" Daunte outplayed Joey is ridiculous.
