Good Whisenhunt Article!

Yeah I read that. He is a great play caller and a great game planner.

Everyone here thinks of him as a Mike Mullarkey clone. :shakeno: WRONG. This guy loves running the ball.

I am all over the Ken Whisenhunt bandwagon. Who knows, he could even recruit Max Starks to come here.

Matt Starks is a RT, not a LT.

And no he is not a Mularkey clone. Mularkey would run triple reverses with Ward and Randle El every other play. Wisenhunt only used the WR pass with ARE once a game (because it was to hard to defend). He also likes to sprea the field. Wisenhunt will use his 4th and 5th WR a lot in games, and not just as decoys, same with his 2nd and 3rd TE.

But most of all, he runs a great running game.

I like Whisenhunt over Cameron - Whisenhunt had a big role in the Super Bowl win. Whisenhunt was masterful with just the right balance of trickery and hard-nosed running.

I never said he was an LT.

I like Whisenhunt and Cameron both but Cameron's resume impresses me far more than Whisenhunt's. Should be interesting to see how this all pans out.

I certainly hope we end up with one of these two as opposed to an old Chan Gailey type.

I dont know, Cam doesnt seem like a head man to me.. He failed at the collegiate level.. Yes, its different, but if you dont have the leadership abilities to work at the college level, its not likely you can do it at the pro level.. From all accounts, Whiz has the intangibles when it comes to pro head coaching potential.

You're saying the man that convince Marty "Mr Conservative" Schottenheimer to loosen up the playcalling doesn't have leadership abilities?

Im talking about leading a team of PLAYERS, not convincing a coach to do something...

What he did in college was 10 years ago. Don't think he has learned something from Schottenheimer on how to handle players and coaches?

Wasn't Cameran a candidate for the Rams job last year? Between Scott Linehan and Cameran, who would you go for?

I would go with Scott Linehan. IMO, he has that franchise going on the right direction. Just needs to build that defense.

Ken Whisenhunt (born February 28, 1962, Augusta, GA) is the highly regarded offensive coordinator of the Pittsburgh Steelers NFL football team. He was instrumental to their victory in Super Bowl XL and many of the previous playoff games. He interviewed to be the head coach of the Oakland Raiders in February of 2006, but after not receiving an offer he decided to stay with the Steelers.
As of January 5th, 2007, Whisenhunt has already interviewed for the vacant Atlanta Falcons head coach opening, and is rumored as a candidate with the Miami Dolphins and Arizona Cardinals, as well as with his current team, the Pittsburgh Steelers. Longtime head coach Bill Cowher resigned on Janurary 5th after 15 years on the job.
Whisenhunt played college football at Georgia Tech (1980-84).
Whisenhunt's unremarkable career as a player included 4 years (1985-88) as a tight end with the Atlanta Falcons and then spells with the Washington Redskins and New York Jets.

Malcom "Cam" Cameron is the current offensive coordinator for the NFL's San Diego Chargers. Cameron, who was the head football coach at Indiana University from 1997-2001, has guided one of the NFL's most productive offenses over the past four seasons. His squad's success has not gone unnoticed as Cameron interviewed for the head coaching positions with both the Houston Texans and St. Louis Rams following the 2005 season. Cameron will interview for the head coaching job with the Arizona Cardinals, Atlanta Falcons and Miami Dolphins during the first week of 2007.
The Chargers averaged 26.1 points per game in 2005, good for fifth in the NFL in that category. In 2004, San Diego scored 446 points, third-highest in the NFL and the third-most in team history. Following the 2004 campaign, Sports Illustrated named Cameron its Offensive Assistant of the Year.
During his tenure at Indiana, Cameron helped develop quarterback Antwaan Randle El (currently with the Washington Redskins) into a 2001 first-team All-America selection. Cameron spent the 1994-96 seasons as the quarterbacks coach for the Washington Redskins. He was credited with the development of Gus Frerotte, who was selected to the Pro Bowl in 1997. Cameron was an assistant coach at the University of Michigan from 1984-93.
A multi-sport athlete at Terre Haute South High School, Cameron won the 1979 Trester Award for Mental Attitude as a guard on the high school basketball team which went to the state finals two years in a row. He played football and basketball at Indiana University under coaches Lee Corso and Bob Knight, respectively. As an undergraduate he was a member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity. He graduated from Indiana in 1983 with a degree in business.

Whisenhunt was turned away by the Raiders! Cameron refused to interview with the Raiders two years in a row now, The Steelers if they promote in house are considering Russ Grimm not Whisenhunt. He has no HC experience at all.

What leadership qualities does Whisenhunt possess?
