Goodell Says Miami Case May Lead to New Workplace Rules

No surprise. I'm just awaiting for the official name change to the NGL (National Goodell League)

Hey Roger, Gotohell.

Hey Roger, Gotohell.
You realize that his Dad was a Republican Senator representing New York for many years and he was politically active as a young guy. Ultimately he has a lot more power and wealth from the NFL. Relax, he won't change the name. His prime responsibility is to protect the shield.

I understand it's difficult to detect sarcasm over the interwebz, but just to help you out, my post was buried in it.

My mistake Son of Shula. I am foreign and have a habit of literal interpretation.
Best regards to the Old Man. Glad to see him getting behind Joe and the team this year.

You laugh but issues like what is acceptable in hazing and what is not and constitutes victimization will be addressed because no team will want the risk of legal action. Jonathan Martin's emotional cafeteria incident is a watershed in the game and Goodell knows it.

Martin has fulfilled his purpose on earth. To pussify the game of pro football. His parents must be proud.

There is one change that I have no problem with.

Making rookies pay for veterans meals and trips. This is wrong on so many levels.

Figured that would happen. Probably a ban on texting and a locker room monitor. Jeez, no hitting high, soon no hitting low, no plays at the plate in MLB, what's next, flag sports with priests as coaches?

They already have a rule about hitting the QB low....

c) model fashion

They have already changed the NFL so much from what I remember in the seventies, it doesn't even seem like the same game. Back then db's could practically mug wr's, qb's could be hit like any other player, and running backs, like Csonka, were absolutely necessary. Today it is a passing the ball game. Just a completely different game.

No kidding. My absolute favorite aspect of attending the early '70s games was watching Foley and Johnson eliminate the opposing wide receivers at the line of scrimmage. They would take out their legs. Consequently the opposing quarterback would drop back with nobody to throw to. It was hysterical. He'd have Bill Stanfill breathing down his neck with his receivers picking themselves off the Poly Turf.

That's why I always have to laugh at the young guys from Football Outsiders when they try to claim the running game was never necessary. They had the game evolve toward their biases and have absolutely no comprehension what it was like decades earlier.

It's difficult to get invested in the game these days because it feels like NFL Lite. I pay attention to my wagers but as long as nobody except the Dolphins has an undefeated season I'm content and never devastated. I'm very happy I grew up in that era instead of this one. It's criminal that the younger fans never got to experience the Orange Bowl and our overwhelming home field edge, or that incredibly smart and resourceful team that dominated opponents on the ground. We'd get the ball with 7 minutes remaining and that game was finished. Five rushing first downs later and the game ended tamely at 3:35 PM Eastern.

I always have to cringe when posters around here act as if the Marino era were the golden years. Unbelievable.

Anyway, I still say that there won't be a lawsuit and Martin will be in the NFL next season. Those should be the favorites but somehow the attitude around here makes them look like extreme predictions. If Martin helped get rid of monetary demands and intimidation toward rookies, this was well worth it.

Going forward don't employ a Jon Martin...that will be change enough
To be honest, if someone told me I had to have either a Martin or an Incognito on my roster, I would have a hard time choosing. Maybe Richie because he could at least play, but he brings a ^%$load of trouble with him...

Lose em both...Richie couldn't pull like Sam brenner did Sunday and get out there like that I can tell ya that...not a chance in hell...brenner may not be all that good a straight ahead move you off the ball blocker but he's on his horse and leading things and giving pouncey another high end move athlete up front...

I agree with you. We can criticize the NFL for rule changes that have changed the game we have all loved. But there is no one on this planet that can convince me that harassment of a player or using racial epitaphs an any way helps the game or any player. And since it doesn't, it should be outawed.
