With the trading of Big Daddy for a 6th, and the likelihood of letting Wes sign with the Pats in return for a 2nd round pick, Mueller and Cam are getting ready to do what most of you have been calling for; they're going to rebuild.
If Bell or Lemon get offers, I would not be urprised if we let them walk for a pick either.
A lot of the moves we're allowing to happen will upset people, but it's the best thing for the team at this point. We will probably sign some FAs in the next couple of days, but not a lo of big names. If you look at the cor of recent Super Bowl teams, they are teams built through the draft with a couple FAs sprinkled in.
Those upset about not getting Dielman or Steinbach, they're getting Steve Hutchinson like money. The draft this year is rich with guards. Same with LB, S, and CB.
I'm not going to guess who we're going to sign in FA, because honestly I don't know. If you want predictions ask Boomer. But going into next year, this will be Cam's team. Sometimes this works te first year; Sean Payton brought in 20+ new players to the Saints and they made the NFC championship game. Other times, it does not work out; almost every Redskin offseason since Daniel Snyder became owner.
The one downside of this plan is if it doesn't work right away.Next season could suck because we'll be a younger team, but a lot of you have said you'd rather suck ad build up the roster than be mediocre year in and year out.
This strategy has nothing to do with being cheap. The fact is we need some good young talent. Spending big bucks on big name free agents will not make us a great team. Hell, if you look at most big name FAs, a lot of them never see their contract through because they can't live up to it. The past regimes gambled the future in favor of quick fixes. Now we have some good young talent (Channing,Ronnie,Carey, Hadnot), some unknowns (Allen,Daniels,Toledo,Roth,Alabi, all the DTs, Hagan), and a bunch of medicocrity.
So while there will be several posters that will complain and say our fron office is a joke, Mueller and Cam look like they're going to run this team the right way. Neither seem to be short sighted, but are building for the long run. While the immediate results may not work, the future looks bright.
