With the trading of Big Daddy for a 6th, and the likelihood of letting Wes sign with the Pats in return for a 2nd round pick, Mueller and Cam are getting ready to do what most of you have been calling for; they're going to rebuild.

If Bell or Lemon get offers, I would not be urprised if we let them walk for a pick either.

A lot of the moves we're allowing to happen will upset people, but it's the best thing for the team at this point. We will probably sign some FAs in the next couple of days, but not a lo of big names. If you look at the cor of recent Super Bowl teams, they are teams built through the draft with a couple FAs sprinkled in.

Those upset about not getting Dielman or Steinbach, they're getting Steve Hutchinson like money. The draft this year is rich with guards. Same with LB, S, and CB.

I'm not going to guess who we're going to sign in FA, because honestly I don't know. If you want predictions ask Boomer. But going into next year, this will be Cam's team. Sometimes this works te first year; Sean Payton brought in 20+ new players to the Saints and they made the NFC championship game. Other times, it does not work out; almost every Redskin offseason since Daniel Snyder became owner.

The one downside of this plan is if it doesn't work right away.Next season could suck because we'll be a younger team, but a lot of you have said you'd rather suck ad build up the roster than be mediocre year in and year out.

This strategy has nothing to do with being cheap. The fact is we need some good young talent. Spending big bucks on big name free agents will not make us a great team. Hell, if you look at most big name FAs, a lot of them never see their contract through because they can't live up to it. The past regimes gambled the future in favor of quick fixes. Now we have some good young talent (Channing,Ronnie,Carey, Hadnot), some unknowns (Allen,Daniels,Toledo,Roth,Alabi, all the DTs, Hagan), and a bunch of medicocrity.

So while there will be several posters that will complain and say our fron office is a joke, Mueller and Cam look like they're going to run this team the right way. Neither seem to be short sighted, but are building for the long run. While the immediate results may not work, the future looks bright.

If only we could add Chambers to this list...

Isn't it amazing that all of a sudden Cam and Mueller DO know what they are doing ??? Yesterday, they were ready to hang them in effigy...or worse, but today they are practically heros...

they are still getting heat for not signing anybody, but as I've said I could care less about who we sign I think our best path to success is through the draft

The fact that we've traded Big Daddy for a pick, and will probably let Wes walk for a 2nd, tells me that Mueller and Cam are not going to try and rush the process.

i mean that 2nd could be a good player for this team in the future and wleker is only a 3rd reciever so it could be real vital

I can understand cutting and replacing players by an incoming coach. We've cut but we haven't replaced...

I don't totally disagree, but you have to supplement thru FA to build. Our problem is basically the 5 Wanny years, that we pissed away picks and when we did have picks make such bad moves that any idiot could have seen it...we are paying for the 5 yrs of Wanny's personnel moves. Saban's drafts can't yet be evaluated, but look promising. You are right when you say we have to build thru the draft, but if we don't supplement in FA, we will be left by the wayside...again....

I like the idea of rebuilding now. It can be real beneficial to us. $38 Million is WAY too much for Welker. I'd rather take the pick.

Now with Fat arse McIntosh signing with the Chiefs, we might get a comp pick for him. I believe he was a FA. I'am not completly sure on the details of this one though.

yea i also like the idea of rebuilding through the draft, it could pan out reallly good , just ask the niners.they rebuilt through the draft the last two years and they won seven games last year and now have a crap load of potential as a team

Im happy with the moves... although losing Welker hurts... I really liked him, but he was never going to be any more than a 3rd string receiver.

Im looking forward to the draft.. and actually having a GM run things.

yet.

We've only released about six players while saving about 29 million and picking up a 2nd and 6th draft pick.

The players on the roster right now could easily fill and likely be an upgrade:
Hagan and Vick for Welker,
Shelton or Alibi for McIntosh,
Evans for Wilkinson,
Roth for Carter, and
R. Williams for Morris.

The only concern I would have would be McIntosh's spot. They can address that in the draft with Joe Thomas, Levi Brown, Joe Staley or Aaron Sears.

I like the plan so far.

GO PHINS!
