Grade Each Pick (2025 Draft)...

I am not qualified to grade anyone’s draft picks but for me this was a good draft, at least in a sense that the dolphins took a shot at a BQ.

They do that every draft, and they get a passing grade from me :).

Give each player your grade!
Final Picks (2025):

1 Kenneth Grant, DT, Michigan

2 Jonah Savaiinaea, G, Arizona

5 Jordan Phillips, DT, Maryland

5 Jason Marshall Jr., CB, Florida

5 Dante Trader Jr., S, Maryland

6 Ollie Gordon II, RB, Oklahoma State

7 Quinn Ewers, QB, Texas

7 Zeek Biggers, DT, Georgia Tech

If I take my personal feelings out of it and look at the way the players feel in the draft my grades are a bit higher. So that’s how I will grade it.

1 Kenneth Grant, DT, Michigan - B (I think he will be a major contributor to our line for the next five years. I see him as a disruptor who will not get the glory stats, but if he becomes a finisher he’s an easy A+.

2 Jonah Savaiinaea, G, Arizona - A+ (The way the board fell moving up for this guy was huge. He will make a big impact on our offensive line.

5 Jordan Phillips, DT, Maryland - B (His strength is what stands out. A shorter Daryl Gardner IMO. He won’t get blown off the ball.

5 Jason Marshall Jr., CB, Florida - B+ (I like this pick. A battle tested clear cut boundary corner which is exactly what we need. He went under the radar in the draft process. I think his ceiling is Byron Jones. His floor is CJ Henderson. In the fifth round, I’ll take it.

5 Dante Trader Jr., S, Maryland - B+ (I am optimistic about this pick. He seems to be Johnny on the spot. He is a poor man’s Budda Baker/Jeremy Chinn type who counts on his instincts over athleticism. Box safety.

6 Ollie Gordon II, RB, Oklahoma State - A (A big athletic runner with great spatial awareness. It’s like watching a surfer ride a wave.

7 Quinn Ewers, QB, Texas - A (I love this pick. Everyone wants Manning but they don’t think the guy who kept Manning on the bench is any good? That doesn’t make sense. I think he can be a starter level QB in the NFL and with develop and great pass protection he has a very high ceiling.

7 Zeek Biggers, DT, Georgia Tech - B (If they run at him, at the line of scrimmage, he will make the tackle. I also like how he gets his arms up to knock down passes. He easily holds his ground with almost no effort.

Curious, why did you give Gordon a C?
I rated the players as the strength of that position at any particular pick.

You probably noticed that as the picks went lower, so did my grades for that pick in general, because of how I "reckoned" the variations in strength of the players at those picks. The lower the pick, typically the general strength of the available players became more uniform.

My choices are subjective.

I realize the competition in the college ranks is lower and less even than what these men will see in the NFL. Because of this, rating their play, even using stats, ignores those critical variations. This produces ratings that are usually much stronger than they would be if all the other players on the field had their weaknesses and strengths included in developing those ratings.

I am also looking at my team filling positions of need. I feel our RB situation is in better shape than our OL and DL, so picking a player whose position not on the OL or DL reduced the rating I gave. Had we been in more need of a RB, I'd have given his selection a higher rating.

In the end, training camp should effectively sort out the "wheat from the shaft", so to speak. - LOL

That also explains some of the higher ratings I issued in the lower picks. I feel we should be picking QB's routinely near the middle to the end of a draft as a matter of general practice. For example, I felt Ewers has something going for him that confused the scouts - thus some of the contradictory scouting reports. Those two things caused me to give him a higher rating.

Grant - B+
Savaiinea - B+
Phillips - C
Marshall Jr. - C
Trader Jr. - C
Gordon II - A+
Ewers - A+
Biggers - B (for Biggers)

Gordon and Ewers may be some extremely good value late in the draft. Grant and Savaiinea are immediate starters and address important needs. Defensive back picks leave something to be desired, though, and I assume the guys they picked up in free agency will start over them (Melafonwu, Ashtyn Davis, Artie Burns, etc)

This draft feels like it had Anthony Weaver's fingerprints all over it. I still believe corner and OL depth need to be addressed into the UDFA signing stage.

Would love to land Xavier Restrepo in the UDFA pool. Watching him with the Canes, he plays with a lot of heart and i believe he can fill that River Cracraft role, if not be even better.

I like those grades.

This.

Also, Restrepo is all heart and, it seems, he easily got open for a catch almost all the time at UM - a constant target for Ward. He will be an effective player anywhere he goes; I sure hope he becomes a Dolphin.

Question: What happened to Restrepo? Did he suffer a stroke? His lower left jaw (face) sags somewhat.

Don't boo me for I'm just curious - no disrespect intended.

Good point on Ewers. He was talked about as a 1st rounder after 2023. Admittedly, that was probably mostly hype, but Ewers was very productive.

His biggest issue has been staying healthy. I also think he fits Miami's system

As an aside, I'm liking this UDFA class. Miami may have found a few gems. I think that factors into the draft grade as well.

A+ for everyone but the two 5th rounders and Ewers.

Ewers blows, it’s a 7th but I’m sure there were other Zeek Biggers out there that were more interesting

The 5th’s are confusing maybe both reaches however I’m not going to judge because if there’s one coach I trust it’s Weaver. He made the defense solid last year when handed a ragtag group strung together by bargain bin free agent signings and missing our edge rushers. Chop was considered raw and finished the year very strong and a dpoy finalist. So I imagine he had heavy influence over these picks and the whole draft in general as it was a pretty defensive heavy draft. Still digging into the two and not sure either will be starters if that’s what you’re expecting but from a quick glance I believe both are pretty good tacklers and I’m assuming weaver has some packages planned that he wanted them for.

The rest of the defenders, these dudes are pure freaks. They are big, they are nasty and they all move like they are 30 pounds lighter than they are. We got very big very fast over the last few nights on the dline.

Savaiinaea one of the best ready to play guards in this draft. Love the pick glad we finally can put more resources into the line between him and Daniels. This unit is young, very big besides brewer and extremely athletic with the addition of him.

Ollie- is there much to say? We got the best back in college from 2023 for a 6 when we were in need of a big back and at 6’1 226 I’m pretty confident he fits the bill.

I give this thread a R for a repost

Grant - B+
Savaiinea - B+
Phillips - C
Marshall Jr. - C
Trader Jr. - C
Gordon II - A+
Ewers - A+
Biggers - B (for Biggers)

I'd agree with all of these except Phillips. He's 20, just scratching the surface and reminds me of Javon Hargrave. If he's that it's easily an A but right now if give it a B. But then again this is somewhat of a pointless thing to do unless we want receipts to show that we were right or not. They're all incompletes for the next 3 years or so unless one of the top 2 ball out this year. Long story long, I liked this draft a lot more than any Grier drafts. It seemed like a Baltimore draft which always seems to be a good thing. There wasn't an early wtf pick (Igbo instead of Winfield Jr or trading up for Liam instead of standing pay and taking Creed. That said, plenty of people will bitch about Grant bc he's a NT but that's only bc they never watched him play and only look at his weight. Dude's a 3T but that's another conversation all in itself. Good job on the grades and hopefully these guys and a few UDFAs (love what we did there) will be dolphins for a long time and right the ship

I pretty much agree with this except I know absolutely nothing about Marshall or Trader so I’m not going to give them a grade.

1 Kenneth Grant, DT, Michigan -- B-
2 Jonah Savaiinaea, G, Arizona -- A-
5 Jordan Phillips, DT, Maryland -- A-
5 Jason Marshall Jr., CB, Florida -- B-
5 Dante Trader Jr., S, Maryland -- C
6 Ollie Gordon II, RB, Oklahoma State -- A
7 Quinn Ewers, QB, Texas -- F
7 Zeek Biggers, DT, Georgia Tech -- F

Grades were based on potential/talent, value of where they were selected, poition of need, and availability of other players at that position.
