I give it a "C" I'm not a fan of it but I'm not going to get overcritical either. I think Hickey really put his neck out on this one being it's boring with what one might figure a good chance to bust(i.e. can't rally claim he took "safe" picks). His picks were his picks and it's clear, he didn't go off any typical rankings and past on some "smart" picks to get his guy. I think by doing this he will either deserve a ton of credit or be responsible for a disaster. Given he was passed over for a GM job with peers that would of know his draft skills I believe the later is a more likely scenario but time will only tell.

I really didn't like the first pick. It does appear to be a big reach to a lot of people in the industry so I'll go by their opinions. However I think we will have the next 12 months to get that question answered, the first round guy has to produce right away IMO and we will see.

I thought the trading we did landed up being kind of pointless. I'll have to sit down later and see in the end what we gained or lost with it though to be sure.

Not a fan of using a round three pick for someone that looks destined to be depth when there was still viable starter on the board.

Lynch baffles me. I guess we were looking at him as part of a strengthening blocking scheme, but then again invested in two more WR's in the draft.

Landry looks like he might be the positive face to the draft but then again in years we could be cursing Hickey for drafting him and trading out of the chance to draft Cody Latimer.

I like the WRs we got both are good route runners. Landry was great value, Tripp was as well. The OL got some much needed talent. The TE and CB are the ones that baffle me a little i just don't like the players. Landry was definitely the best player we drafted and visibly will make the biggest impact. But if James and Turner do their job right you don't notice them. The B is for reaching for james and getting a tackle you have to work into guard, Turner never played guard before the senior bowl

I didn't like that we got james over a ball hawking safety in HaHa.

To much small school for me still feel haunted by Clyde gates.

Hopefully it will be good loved the 2nd round pick

B+
James-I think he will have a impact from the start but I still feel like it was a reach
Landry-Absolutely love the pick. This kid has some of the best attacking the ball skills and hands I have seen in awhile from a 5'11 WR.
Turner-Another good pick, I feel that he can get a starting spot day 1!
Aikens- I feel he will be a gem. The main reason he fell was because of a misdemeanor theft charge and being from a small school. He is incredibly athletic and has the tools to be a beast.
Tripp-I think it will take some time for an impact but I do feel he will eventually get some PT. He is all over the field and showed good coverage in the senior bowl.
Lynch-Honestly I am not a big fan. He is a good blocker but not what we need.
Hazel-He has the tools to be good but he really needs to bulk up. Only way he gets a spot is if he balls in training camp. Until then hopefully he makes it to the practice squad.
Fede- Seems like he can get to the QB but most likely a camp body but we will see.

C+...he filled some needs but left a 3rd rounder on the board IMO by not trading out of 19. He gets the plus because this was a pretty weak draft in general.

C just don't believe in his small school recruits. Not one of these players is taking us to 10-6 THIS year.

Right now I give him a B.....he set out to fix the OL and bring more competition to the passing game, I think he did that, he didnt try to do to much and end up not fixing anything......once we see these players in camp will dictate if his score move up or down....

Before you get upset over Ha Ha consider most of the players coming out of Alabama don't do well in the NFL. Under the system there the players seem to peak in college.

B-

I thought we should have traded down when we were at #19, but maybe we tried and had no takers or the deal wasn't worth making.

I think James will be just fine...we drafted a RT to play RT...rather than drafting a tackle to play there.

Turner and Tripp are solid guys...should make the team.

The TE we took looks like a good blocker. ..we'll see if he can catch.

We will see if the small school guys pan out. I would have liked drafting a RB.

Clearly Hickey isn't a BPA guy as need clearly trumped BPA in the 1st and 3rd rounds. We had two picks that I think were reaches, James and Turner, but at least Hickey was reaching for what we needed. We also had two picks, Landry and Tripp, that I think were very good value for their spots and could be solid contributors, maybe even starters, by the end of the season. Five of the first six players we drafted were captains on their college teams, so Hickey is making an attempt to bring leadership into a locker room that needs it badly. I don't think rookies can come in and be leaders right off the bat, but perhaps they won't be so eager to follow any residual schmucks we have when they suggest doing things that will bring embarrassment to the team and detract from the team's focus ...which should be football.

Key Expectations: I fully expect James to start, and both Landry and Tripp to see the field sooner than later. If Turner can win the starting guard job, I can forgive the bad value. If Dallas Thomas beats him out for the job, pfffttt ...crappy pick.

Overall, I think we're probably in the C+ range, perhaps B-.

James - I'm okay with the player but what I'm reading indicates he's a bit one-dimensional: he can pass block but he's not so good at run blocking. I don't love the pick because it wasn't good value for the spot.

Landry - I think this was our best pick. I think he'll be a starter before the year is out. Great, great hands on this kid. Plus he was very good value for where we picked him.

Turner - Another case where I don't mind having the player but it wasn't great value for the spot. I think a better option would have been to pick Marcus Martin and put him in the guard slot.

Aikens - He's going to need some coaching to be effective in the NFL. The knock on him is that he sometimes gives a big cushion. NFL qbs will eat him alive if he does that too often. If he can learn to play close, he might work out, but until he does I don't see him getting on the field very much short of special teams. He graded quite a bit lower than other players being taken at the time so I question picking him there from a value standpoint.

Lynch - I'm not a fan of this pick. I'm worried he'll be too one-dimensional at the pro level. They're going to have to be careful that Lynch coming into the game doesn't become a signal that we're going to run the ball. But if James is as weak a run blocker as they say, I can understand why they feel they may need to give him some help. As far as value, he was in the neighborhood.

Tripp - Good pick. Kid has a ton of heart and a great motor. After Landry, this is the most intriguing pick for me. He was good value where we picked him.

Hazel - Half the sites have him at 6-3, the other half at 6-1. I like him better if he's 6-3 because we need a big target with good hands. They say he's very good at getting separation. If he can do that at the next level, maybe he'll surprise us but I'm not expecting miracles from a 6th round pick.

Fede - Maybe a practice squad player. Probably nothing more than that.
