Following the 34-24 loss to the Packers, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel e-mailed Saban's official postgame transcript to three unbiased management experts. Two identified themselves as sports fans, but all were asked to analyze the comments from a management, rather than sports, perspective. They were pointed to three particular passages.

The first:

"I don't know how to coach mess-ups. I don't know how to coach guys to do things they're supposed to be able to do. ... We're going to keep coaching, though, we're going to keep working it, we're going to keep repping it, and one of these days they're going to get confidence in being able to do it with consistency ... ."

The second, regarding whether the team has enough prime-time players:

"If they play like they're capable of, we do. There's one playing in Canada and one that's hurt right now. We have enough guys here, where if we play the kind of football we're capable of, we'll have success."

The third:

"I don't criticize our players. Why don't you guys respect that? I'm not going to do it. You can criticize me all you want, and I won't get mad at you. Don't ask me to criticize my players. ... I'll tell them what they did wrong in the meetings because I want to get it fixed worse than you want to get it fixed."

What did the experts think?

You'll have to read the full article to find out....

Written tributes: On his playing shoes, tight end Randy McMichael writes spiritual messages, the names of family members and the phrase, "Show them why."

Left Shoe: " Catch Ball "

Right Shoe: " Run/pass Block "

It should read....Catch ball with HANDS.

i like the article, but what the guy says at press conferences bears little on his ability to coach and lead. did any of these 3 guys have to stand in front of a roomful of reporters once a week, who are trying to trip them up and give explanations for why their employees screwed up?

Probably not....but CEO's have to answer to many people also. You have to take the article as it is...a report card by management people on what they read on what Saban said in that press conference....no more no less.

While amusing, a fairly useless article.

The Saban that is required to answer questions for the media has little to do with the one that coaches the Dolphins.

The way I read the transcript and I remember watching it, Saban was not calling players "mess-ups". He was asked about the individual plays they messed up, and he said he was not coaching mess-ups, he was teaching them the correct way to do it in practice.

I don't think you can ask anyone to judge how this man is doing as a leader, give him 3 statements from a post-lost conference for them to judge, and expect anyone to give a **** what they have to say. They know nothing about Saban's philosophy, the circumstances he aquired, and the the chain of events leading up to this point. This article was nothing more than someone trying to meet their deadline.

your right the fact that it was a post-lost conference is a good point. Also the why they only choose a certain sentence is media agenda. They got exactly what they want from those people. What about all the times he tells the media he is not going to bash the player yet they still want him to. And for all the people saying saben needs to be accountable. I watch all his press conferences thanks to the new site, and he repeatley say's that its hes fault he has to take the blame. What else do people want him to say. We are losing right now and he say's that he is at fault and is trying to get it right. what else are they looking for. I dont understand they act like hes not working or doesnt care. But he tells them that he does care more then they do. The media is the media and people need to be able to read or listen to something and make there own judgements. This article is biased and terrible

It was an interesting idea for an article, but meaningless for two reasons.

First, the managers were only given excerpts so they had no context for the remarks Actually, this happens with fans as well who often only hear sound bites and then jump to conclusions.

Second, they don't know what Saban is saying to his team behind closed doors. All the managers did was try to guess at what the message Saban was giving his players.

i
like the article, but what the guy says at press conferences bears little on his ability to coach and lead.

NO, but his 1-6 record and his awful drafts and his inability to
identify nfl talent DOES!!

the guy says what he is. anyone think this is nicks first press
confrence? nope! and if he is rattled by them now, after all
these years then there is NO hope for him.

this is my fav from the article [and says it all]...........

"I have to tell you that I have seldom seen such an outrageous, lengthy diatribe filled with whining, complaints and excuses," said Emmett Gumm, a former pharmaceutical executive and past president of SCORE, which has counseled 7.5 million small businesses....

"If he doesn't know how to coach mess-ups, why is he on the job?" Gumm said. "It's like the captain of a ship. The buck stops with that guy."

we all had a lenghty conversation about nicks press confrence
freek shows in one of these threads a few days back.

long before this article. myself, bluhaze, and a few others already
noticed these self telling blurbs of sabans as the truth to his
ability as a leader and pro coach. NOT GOOD!!

and now, the media and professional buisness consultants are
seeing it as well.

wheres that guy that said ALL the front offices in the nfl say
that nick is the in the top 5 of coaches/gm's in the leauge?
