I'm sorry but Charles Grant (as well as Justin Smith in Cincy) should not be tagged. Both are good players, bt are they really woth paying as top 5 DEs?

my thoughts too, both are good ends but dont deserve that much money, i guess they may be in good cap shape... now freeney on the other hand...

The Saints are $26 million under the cap. But......they still owe Drew Brees a $12 million roster bonus that isn't pro rated over the remaining five years of his contract. It will be a $12 mil. one time hit against this year's cap. I'm sure the Saints FO and Brees will rework it into a signing bonus that can pro rated over the life of the contract like the Colts did with P. Manning. But as of this minute it's a one time cap hit.
Then there's Charles Grant....I'd agree he isn't a top five DE but he is a complete DE. The market is thin for DEs, the negotiations haven't gone well, so they had little choice but to tag him. Grant has been complaining to anyone that will listen that the Saints are offering him "backup money". Hmmm....he's guaranteed $8.6 mil. that's "backup money"?
