Hey grats on signing Daunte. At this point though it's a big wait and see type thing, even though almost everyone (including myself) believes he's an upgrade over Gus.

The question I have is why trade a second rounder for him? There was no way Minn was keeping him on the roster for the '06 season, so why not just lurk around and wait for him to be cut?

because oakland was starting to regain interest and could of potentialy out bidded us for culpepper and then we would of have been left with nothing...in my opion culpepper is worth more than a second round pick but since he was have difficulties in minnesota we got him for a bargin

Agreed:cooldude:

you know, it's sad when you call your wife who works in retail just to tell her we got culpepper, and even before you do you know she wont care because she doesnt like sports and she's probablly very busy, but you're just so excited to have a franchise qb that you had to tell someone...

I don't necessarily agree with that. Minn has a load of cap room, and did not have to cut Cullpepper. Pepper had allready stated, that even though he wanted a trade, he would still honor his contract if they didn't grant his request. My guess is that Minny would NOT have let him go.

Also, cuz...

I did the same, I called my wife at her school and she thought something was wrong. I was so excited at work, I had to tell a fellow Floridian.

The friggin Falcon fans up here only care how Vick is doing (some want to get rid of him), so they wouldn't care nor do most of them have half the passion I do ( or anyone one this board for that matter).

You called my wife too.

:sidelol:

Looks like a lot of us did the calling the wife thing.

Her brother is a huge Charger fan, and I explained that Drew Brees would be going to the Saints and we Get Daunte.

She also happens to work at Mater Dei high school (Matt Leinart's) alma matter, and explained to her that Matty pretty much dodged a bullet.

long story short, she had really no idea what it meant to any of us, her response "Cool! I bet they want to eat Matt alive" :sidelol:

Ahh, gotta love women huh.

If we waited until they CUT him........we'd be in a bidding war with other teams with more cap room than we have.

We didn't want another bidding war (like Brees), because we couldn't guarantee we'd have the biggest bid, and now that he's ours for sure, we can possibly restructure his deal.

Also, we didn't want to wait for him to be cut......maybe in a few weeks, because we'd have to put the rest of our FA signing period on "hold" to leave enough cap room to sign him....if he was cut.

Now, we have his RIGHTS, can restructure his deal (or at least we know the cap implications), and we can move forward on getting our other FAs signed.

i'm so lonely up here in md being a fins fan.... she was like "yeah" i go "THE FINS TRADED FOR CULPEPP" she cuts me off "i'm really busy i'll have to call you back" "NO WAIT, THE FINS TRADED 2ND ROUNDER FOR CULPEPPER!!!" "LISTEN, I JUST SAID, THE FINS.. TRADED. (out of breath) FOR... CULPEPPER" she goes "whos tha... i gotta go by" click... she called me back and she's like who now? i go culpepper boat sex scandal qb deny allegations, she goes oh yeah... isn't he going to jail or something? :( my buddy who's a diehard skins fan goes good luck w/that, and send me a link to this...

which is not related to the dolphins but still funny. brees or culpepper though, they're both proven they can be good playmaking franchise quarterbacks w/talent. i'd have been equally as happy w/either one, i'm just hoping soo much we finally end this qb curse since marino left. this afternoon has been just too wild.

You Buffalo guys have to be overjoyed! It was close there for a minute, when it looked like Miami might get Brees or perhaps even trade up for Cutler. Now with Daunte Culpepper, the Dolphins will fall to the bottom of the division and your Bills will have a great leg up.

Congrats to you, my man. Congrats to you.

Thanks for showing some class about this, unlike some of your buds.

The answer to your question is this. Saban and Mueller was afraid that the Raiders would make a deal for Culpepper because they show some interest in him again and I bet that they would gave an offer that the Vikings couldn't refuse. Obviously Saban doesn't think that Culpepper's injury is worse then Brees because he gave them a 2nd rounder and he wouldn't budge on the price for Brees.
