so with 3 weeks of pre-season in the books the picture has become a lot clearer as to who will be on the final roster. i took a look at the roster when training camp started. i'll re-do this here.

i split things up a bit differently this time around. first of all, i took a look at the roster locks. after that, i looked at all the bubble guys and picked the ten best football players, regardless of position. you'll find out that we're going to have to take a look at some positions when the final cuts will be made. anyhow, here's my take

OFFENSE (20 locks)

QB - 10 Chad Pennington, 7 Chad Henne, 6 Pat White
LT - 77 Jake Long
LG - 65 Justin Smiley
C - 64 Jake Grove, 67 Joe Berger
RG - 66 Donald Thomas, 61 Shawn Murphy
RT - 72 Vernon Carey
RB - 23 Ronnie Brown, 34 Ricky Williams, 38 Patrick Cobbs
TE - 80 Anthony Fasano, 88 David Martin
WR - 19 Ted Ginn, 15 Davone Bess, 84 Patrick Turner
WR - 82 Brian Hartline, 83 Greg Camarillo

DEFENSE (20 locks)

LDE - 70 Kendall Langford
NT - 95 Jason Ferguson, 96 Paul Soliai
RDE - 94 Randy Starks, 97 Phillip Merling
SLB - 99 Jason Taylor, 74 Quentin Moses
ILB- 52 Channing Crowder, 53 Reggie Torbor
ILB - 51 Akin Ayodele
WLB - 55 Joey Porter, 91 Cameron Wake
LCB - 25 Will Allen, 24 Vontae Davis
RCB - 31 Sean Smith, 33 Nathan Jones
S - 37 Yeremiah Bell, 29 Tyrone Culver
S - 28 Gibril Wilson, 30 Chris Clemons

SPECIALISTS (3 locks)

PK - 5 Dan Carpenter
P - 2 Brandon Fields
LS - 92 John Denney

that leaves 24 players vying for 10 roster spots. as i said earlier, i'm going to list them as i perceive them as best pure football players, regardless of position.

atop the list IMO is Matt Roth. he is easily the best player remaining, but since he's still out i think he will be put on PUP for further evaluation.

here's the rest:

1. Tony McDaniel, DL
2. Rodrique Wright, DE
3. Lou Polite, FB
4. Charlie Anderson, LB
5. Lionel Dotson, DE
6. Jason Allen, CB
7. Lex Hilliard, RB
8. Andrew Gardner, T -> PS eligible
9. Brandon London, WR
10. John Nalbone, TE -> PS eligible

11, Mark Lewis, OL -> PS eligible
12. Erik Walden, OLB
13. William Kershaw, ILB -> PS eligible
14. Courtney Bryan, S
15. Brandon Frye, T
16. Ryan Baker, DE -> PS eligible
17. J.D. Folsom, ILB -> PS eligible
18. Anthony Armstrong, WR -> PS eligible
19. Joey Thomas, CB
20. Nate Garner, T
21. Joey Haynos, TE
22. Will Billingsley, CB -> PS eligible
23. James Robinson, WR -> PS eligible

keep in mind, that's only the way i see it. however, i'm not exactly thrilled with players 51-53. London is a good STer, but has shown very little as WR. being a STer alone will probably not be enough to keep him around, so i guess he's gone.
Gardner and Nalbone are both eligible for PS and i could see them landing there and a veteran T and TE being brought in for depth. i like Gardner, but i think he needs some work. i think he'll end up on PS with a veteran being brought in. Nalbone will probably make it IMO. that means i'm listing a 51-man roster with two openings for potential FAs and an 8 man PS.

barring any unforeseen events, our preliminary 51-man roster would look like this IMO.

I think you might have it pretty close, but there is no way we go into the season with 7 offensive linemen on the active roster. Either Dotson or Wright will make the roster, one won't. We won't go into the season with 6 defensive ends. I expect Ireland and Parcells will be watching the waiver wire closely and will add 2 or 3 guys on other teams rosters to our roster.

thx
i don't think we're going into the season with only 7 OL either. keeep in mind that's only a 51-man roster. there's still two open spots. i absolutely expect one G/T to be brought in.

we kept 6 DEs last season. Wright and Dotson IMO are both tradeable commodities. i'd prefer to keep Dotson and find a way to lure away a 7th rounder for Wright from someone. it may work out. Wright has immense talent. maybe he just needs a change of scenery.

i agree. i think we're going to see some guys ending up on the final roster who aren't with the team yet.

We definitely will have atleast one more OT and probably a G/T as well.

Rod Wright isn't making the team

Add another LB (Kershaw, Walden or Anderson) and u are good for 53.

You only have 5 D-linemen on your list.

We kept 8 last year.

Miami believes in rotating D-linemen all game to keep the unit fresh late in games. That helps the linebackers tremendously.

I would start adding there.

i agree. i think there will be at least one more T, maybe a G/T type. that said, i left two spots open because of that. we could bring in a T and PR/KR.

Anderson is actually on the roster. we may keep Kershaw. i wouldn't mind that. he's been good so far IMO.

i think Wright could be kept around for trading purposes. he could get us a 7th. he has the talent.

nah, that's just the locks IMO. look at the end of the post. i see us keeping 8 DL just like last year.

I don't know if we go into the season with only 1 backup ILB.

that concerns me as well

A. Gardner will make the team. Wright won't make it although I believe he is the best 4-3 DE on the team, problem is we are a 3-4 team. I think we will try to add an extra CB (good bye to Allen or Jones), an extra OL (goodbye to Frye or Berger) and an extra ILB (good bye to Walden or/and Anderson)

i definitely agree we're not done adding to this team. T, G, ILB and maybe S have to be high on the list IMO.

Did We Already Cut Wake???? I Dont See Him On The List
