Great Article: Bill Lazor from Birds 24/7 (Philly Website)

I think he can cut it as OC. They'll be a learning curve, but what he brings right off the bat will far outweigh that.

The Lasor Show is comin to town..

“Nick’s a guy that his feelings aren’t gonna get hurt if he feels like a coach is saying, ‘You’re not getting it done,’ ” said center Jason Kelce. “He’ll welcome that and then be able to say, ‘What can I do better to correct these things?’ You can’t have a guy who’s always just saying, ‘Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes.’ You’ve also gotta have that little thing in your head that’s like, ‘Well, why? That doesn’t necessarily make sense.’ And I think he’s got that too. He’s very coachable and also gonna make the coach explain it to him if he needs to.”

One thing I got from the article is that Lazor is looking for coachable guys. Ones who check their ego at the door and come to work. In that aspect I would pick Miami over Detroit.

I can live with him as a mediocre OC as long as RT progresses.

I hear you, but if RT is to progress, the offense wont look mediocre. This next season is a big one for RT.

I love his attention to detail. He even criticizes mechanics on great plays which is great coaching. I can't imagine how long those Tuesday meetings will be with Tannehill. His footwork is absolutely terrible at times, especially the last 2 games. Hopefully he will have him work on that for weeks before even throwing a ball. Then incorporate some throws in there. Maybe he'll actually complete a pass to a wide open Wallace for a change.

Well, to me, in this article and in the video interviews, he comes across as a bit of a pedantic type. Should fit in with Joe like a glove. I really think Joe needs to add a little bit of blood and thunder to his OC choice, to balance out his natural dryness and analytical nature. Footballers want to improve and win, most of them understand it's a business as well as a sport, but they also want to enjoy themselves, feel inspired and create inspiration in others.

I'm not passing judgement on a guy I don't know at all, happy to wait and see. His QB development skills are really needed. We do need to inject a bit of fire into the coaching ticket though, the evidence of the games shows that Miami came out flat a lot over the past two seasons.

The pedant-radar is quietly pinging though.

sherman was a hyper/screamer dude.

how did that work out?

football is all about teaching and that is why the most DRYEST of coaches, BILL BILLICHEK continues to win, no matter what the set back. brady goes down? enter matt castle who torches us big and takes them to the playoffs. cb's all hurt? just use wr's....... and make the playoffs!! all world TE'S out? no sweat. put in "some dude" and that bradys money man. and their in the championship game!!

all with NO screaming, rah-rah coaches. for you fellow geezers, tom landry was the same way. stoic like a statue. and geezer new england fans, coach RAYMOND BERRY [hof wr] didnt even blink.

sorry, but philbin and his stoic demeanor are getting WAY to much of the blame.

I don't agree. I like fire as much as anyone, but the OC position is not about fire, it's about fixing problems, working with players, and designing plays to beat/trick the opposing team. I want a guy who can do what they do in New England, they pull guys away in the middle of the game and go over mistakes or identify weaknesses in defenses on the fly. Belichick's players tell us he's never happy, even when they're winning, he's on the sideline pointing out something they did wrong. And that's exactly what Lazor is doing. That's how you get to be great. And at the same time, Lazor himself said that the players on Chip Kelly's team had more fun than any other team he's been on, partly because of what they did and partly because of the winning, and so he understands that element as well.

The way I look at it, great teams do three things:

1. The GM drafts football players. Not just athletes.
2. The coach schemes and makes adjustments mid-game, to put his players in the best possible position to win, and uses each and every player correctly, asking them to do what they are best at, not what they are worst at.
3. They ensure there's at least one or two leaders inside the locker room itself, and those players contribute to the success of the team almost as much as the coach does.

First off, Cassel didn't come in and lead them to the playoffs. We won the division that year. Also, we split 1-1 with them that year...Cassel didn't really torch us.

Great read, thanks. I have to wonder how much time he will have to spend with Tannehill as OC, and if he will bring in any different assistants to replace what we now have. Anyone heard or seen anything on this?

I think he is the perfect choice for Miami. especially in this phase in RT's career. If the offense is successful, he may be moving on to a head coaching job in a few years. The time he spends with RT now could pay dividends for the next 10 years.
I also agree that it is a good pairing with Philbin. He strikes me as a man, similar to Philbin, who likes to avoid confrontation and very business like. They should be on the same page in philosophy and also in demeanor.
The oline coach should be the fire and brimstone, skull cracking type of personality. We need someone to motivate and instill toughness, and a GM to pick those tough hard working guys.
It is fine if the OC is more cerebral with good communication ability and a personality that will fit in with the offensive players. Compared to Sherman, I believe he will have more creativity and know how to maximize the players talents. Sherman was a one note band.

Thanks for sharing the article. I am excited to see what he can do in Miami. His results with Foles intrigued me, his attention to detail impressed me, and his comments to the media about being "in this" with Joe won me over. He knows the situation in Miami and the unstable ground. He wants the challenge and in his words, "I choose to compete." Get him and RT in a room asap and lets go to work.
