IMO, this was his best game ever, though it is bittersweet.

How many of you watched the 1986 Dolphins-Jets game - 51-45?

Had we had a defense that year, no telling what people would be saying about that season.

Marino's stats for the game: 30-50, 448 yards and 6 TD's. He was unstoppable. Both Clayton and Duper had way over 100 yards, Duper leading the way with 174.

As I recall, we actually had a 45-31 lead at one point - with just a couple of minutes to go. But, we gave up an easy TD (William Judson may be one of the worst CB's of all time). Then, we tried to run the clock down with a running game that was worthless - and they got the ball back and scored on the last play of regulation. Then, the Jets scored on a bomb on their first possession in overtime. Wesley Walker had 4 TD's for the Jets. Our defense made O'Brien look much better than he ever was in reality.

Later that season we beat them 45-3.

But, the 51-45 game is the most telling of Marino's career, imo, b/c it showed that he was unbelievably talented - one of the greatest ever - yet, he had no defense to work with.

Nevertheless, watching him that game was magical.

One of my favorite games of all time - what an aeriel show. And Paul Lankford was a worse DB than William Judson.

Jets shoulda lost that game fumbling the kickoff on the final drive that was never called. Final score shoulda been (48-44 Miami......or.....52-44 Miami ) Jets home field refs hosed us..

I'd love for the NFL or the NFL channel get their heads outta their butts and start pulling old classics out of the archives in the off season like this game and others. Have one on like every Thursday night at 8:00pm....especially the NFL channel. When I heard years back on the NFL channel coming I thought for sure they'd do this. I wonder what kind of red tape they'd have to go through to get this done.1 game for each team on thursdays and play lesser but worth wild games at say 11:00... The NFL channel repeats way to much, they need to go deeper into X's and O's and play older games.

Yes, that's true. His name just didn't pop into my brain - though I did remember the # - 44 (Lankford). and 49 (Judson), I believe.

Agree completely. I'd like to see some serious tape-reading programs like Jaws does on ESPN. The problem is, you only see 1-2 plays reviewed. I'd like to see some real film work done on past games. I suppose they are limited by the NFL to avoid giving a team a particular competitive advantage. But, they could at least do after the season is over for several teams and talk about their strengths, flaws, etc.

Boy what a game that was. we would have won easily if it hadn't been for H Green getting injured early in the game. And then we go and get swindled in OT---God I hate those Jets---SUCK SUCK SUCK

You are blaming the game on 1 injury? We had our entire defensive backfield out, we were on 3rd and 4th string DBs.

Jets shoulda lost that game fumbling the kickoff on the final drive that was never called.

That was the first year of instant replay and they never even reviewed that play.

The point I was making that in the context of the game, Miami looked comfortable until the injury. What you are saying had no bearing on the game once it had started. Anyway back then we never even had a backfield shag

Comfortable until the injury? I don't remember when the injury occurred but the Jets were scoring at will in the first half. We actually wre shutdown the 2nd half until the last 5 mins or so.
