BEST PART esp. the PASS BLOCKING ONE (main reason why hadnot left btw he jsut coudlnt pass block for crap). Great info on that link.

"He is a solid at both run blocking and is great in pass protection. he is a tough motherfather, he has played through numerous injuries (and nothing like sprained ankles, im talking separated shoulders etc)

he is really young as well. good signing IMO. he will be good for them.

the only reason that we let him go was because he was demanding more money than we thought he was worth, and we are deep at G (larry allen, David Baas, Adam Snyder, and Tony Wragge) 3 of 4 are starting material and wragge is a solid backup.

and FYI, i doubt that they could have signed him so quick, unless they talked to him before 9 PST, for all you "tamepering is illegal" people out there."

I find it funny that obviously he was the #1 guy on Parcells and Irelands list and every 49er site I have visited has nothing but great things to say about him. Yet I get on here this morning and so-called Phinfans is putting him down. Bill had him #1 and that says alot IMO because really Fanecas money won't be too far off.

But don't forget, we only had 2/5s of an OL before Smiley was signed. There's still 2 more starters on that OL to go...besides, Faneca has been best as the LG in Pitts..Smiley has played RG only.

In the NFL youth is king. Smiley is in the prime of his career and hopefully he continues to improve. Fanaca only has a couple of good years left. Smiley is the better long term solution. I don't think Fanaca would be able to play out a 5 year deal.
